Because I recently had an opportunity to connect Vince Murphy of the DPF with an investor who put in an offer on a property they gained through foreclosure, I thought I would give them a plug--which one of you may be able to use to pay for 215 Main Smyrnaimprovements on an historic property. The Delaware Preservation Fund has announced the deadline for its next round of mini-grants to be December 12, 2014.  The DPF helps to fund qualified improvements to historic properties with grants of $1000 (or somewhat larger in exceptional cases) and by offering short-term loans at below market terms for larger projects.  Improvements must comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. Initial applications should be mailed and accompanied by a cover letter and color photographs.  Applications may be found at http://preservationde.org/delaware-preservation-fund/small-grants-program/  Email dpf@dca.net for further information, or call Vince Murphy at 443-504-2049.

And in case you wondered what happened with the Creighton-Jones215 Main 1769 house in Smyrna (with scaffold above) that you heard about in November, we do have a signed contract on it and you will hear more in the future about the new owner’s progress in continuing the restoration. Because it is in the historic district, it would be eligible for DPF grants in the future!

And one more thing, I have been asked to help find a new owner for a sensitively restored stone historic home for $354,900 in Kennett Twp., PA. No work to do updating the systems and structure. And I love that there are still 2 areas where the original "combed" paint still exists. If this interests you, I can send details.

Don't forget--if you are looking for older and historic homes for sale, contact Carolyn Roland!
