Northside Richmond VA: A BIG yard ... and still City Livin'

So you love the living with in the City of Richmond ... Maybe you even love the Fan and Museum Districts But you especially love being able to walk to dinner or  quick cup of coffee.  But you really want a yard!  And I mean a real back yard- like one that requires a lawnmower (or better yet- yard service). The kind of yard that you could put up a bouncey house in for a birthday party.  But you aren't ready to move out the 'burbs just to get that yard.  And what about charm and character on those older homes ? You've got to have that.

Well, look no further ... let's take a trip to the Northside!

(Don't worry, we are still within the city limits of Richmond so no need to get nervous)

There's a ton of great neighborhoods on the Northside but today I'm writting about my 2 favorite blocks of the Northside. Yes, I know that's a really small area but it's so unique that it deserves its own article.  I'll get to the others in due time. But today, it's all about the 3800 and 3900 blocks of Seminary Avenue in Ginter Park on the Northside.

Are those sequoia trees in RVA?

As you turn off of Laburnum Avenue and start to head north on Seminary Avenue, your breath will be taken away by the enormous trees that line the streets. I can only assume that these were little saplings years ago.  But fast forward one hundred years and now these gorgeous trees line the street perfectly. And their size and scale is perfectly in proportion to the homes on this street. It's like someone was planning for this a hundred years ago.

Charm and Character- Check!

We'll you've got that- and heaps of it!  No McMansions here.  Most of these homes were built around the 1920's so there's a ton of character here.  You'll get your 10 foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, sweeping southern front porches, over-sized baseboard molding, and maybe even a a transom or two.  Maybe you'll even get lucky and get an original ice box in your kitchen. This shot was taken from a home I sold her last summer.  When my clients aren't loading it with blocks of ice to keep their milk cold, it doubles as a great liquor cabinet.

Northside Richmond VACoffee or Dinner - ON FOOT!

Have no fear you can still run out for dinner or coffee, without loading up the car.  You are just a block away from Bellevue and Brook.  There's a handful of shops there, including my personal fav - Enoteca Sogno and Little House Green Grocery.  All just a skip away from your front door.

Want a little more, well you got it! Head a few more blocks West (yes, you are still on foot!) and you are at Bellevue and McArthur with tons of choices- Stir Crazy Cafe, Once Upon a Vine, Dots Back Inn and The Mill, just to name a few.

And finally ... a REAL back yard

One of the best things about this area is the yards. Again, we are talking about real back yards. These are the kind of back yards that you could have a pool- and a big one. Maybe a basketball course is more your style.  Heck, you even get a front yard too.  Most of these homes are on 1/2 acre lots. Remember those beautiful trees that lined the street?  Well chances are that you'll have a few of those in your yard as well.

So have you fallen in love with the 3800 and 3900 blocks of Seminary Avenue and ready to pack your Northside Richmond VAbags and move there? I know I'm ready.  Be sure to reach out to me- Shane Lott of Lott Realty Group at Keller Williams Richmond West.  Experience my passion for real estate and Richmond VA ... and Seminary Avenue of course!  We can walk to Stir Crazy Cafe to discuss finding you that perfect home on Seminary Avenue over a cup of coffee. Remember- Northside Richmond VA: A BIG yard ... and still City Livin'
