Why Move to Seattle?

Here are my top ten reasons why Seattle is my favorite town.

10.  Every neighborhood has its own personality.  From hip and trendy Capital Hill, Freemont and Belltown, to quiet suburban Magnolia, Admiral and Wedgwood.  No matter what your personality, you can find a neighborhood where you'll feel right at home.  If you don't like the vibe where you are, walk a few blocks in any direction and you are in a whole different scene.

9.  We have jobs.  Starbucks, Microsoft, Boeing, UW, Amazon, Expedia and a thousand other companies are centered right here in the northwest.  And why do so many companies want to come here....

8.  Great education.  Seattle is one of the most literate cities in America.  From public to private, kindergarten to grad school, the area has some of the most diverse educational and vocational options anywhere.

7. Weather.  Oh sure, you all think it rains here all the time.  Not really.  It rains about 5 months out of the year, that's true.  But is isn't the soaking rain you are thinking of.  It is the misty, calming, almost romantic drizzle you find in Scotland.  That's why we are the Emerald City.  Besides, summer in Seattle can't be beat.  Warm and sunny but not too hot and very low humidity.

6.  Lots to do.  Sports, symphonies, zoo and aquarium, museums, shows, restaurants, shopping, you name it, we got it.

5.  Espresso on every corner.   It's true.  We are addicted.  Find a corner in Seattle where you can't hail a barista or hear someone ordering a quad-vente-no-foam- soy-caramel-macchiato-extra hot and I'll buy you lunch.

4.  You can wear jeans anywhere.  We have a phrase in Seattle, "Seattle Chic".  It means you can wear almost anything anywhere.   Want to break out the tux for the opera?  Great.   Want to go to the same opera in that great new pair of Levi's?  Knock yourself out.

3.  Small town feel.  Despite its ever increasing size, Seattle still feels like a small town.  Mostly due to the very neighborhood specific personality of the area.  You are going to be on a first name basis with your barber, mailman and grocery store checker.

 2.  Proximity to everything.   Want to be in the desert, mountains, rainforest, fresh water, ocean, beach, or woods?  We got you covered.  We can even find you a beautifully restored alpine village if you want.

1.  But the biggest reason why this is such a great place for me, it how beautiful it is.  On a clear day you have views of Mt. Rainier (an actual live volcano), the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, the sound, lakes, not to mention a beautiful skyline.

All in all not a bad place to be.

Jeans are acceptable at the opera?! Now that's my kind of town. Excellent list and fun to read.
