Birthdays

Today is my neice's birthday! Sassy little toot got boots. With glitter!

Yesterday was my son's birthday! Games, books, Ripstik board.

Two days ago it was my blog's birthday! Renewal bill from ActiveRain - haha!

What do you remember about your birthdays as a child? I remember clowns. Mom hired a clown a couple of times for my birthday and I thought I was pretty special. I remember skating rink songs like Celebrate and Mickey. And I recall a slumber party. Do you know what I can't remember? I can't recall one single gift. Wait. I lied. I recall one year my cousin giving me a hampster. I can tell you a lot of details about my birthday parties -- mostly at home -- from pre-school garage birthdays to the Dallas Hard Rock Cafe in high school, but I can only name one gift. Ever. I think that's pretty telling...

How memorable is closing day for homeowners? A house's birthday? I was 9 months pregant last time, taking nesting and "birth" day to a whole new level.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR HOME'S BIRTHDAY?

- Inspect the property, a pro is best. Correct known issues before they grow! Perform any routine annual home maintenance, like HVAC system tune-ups.

- Review the homeowner's insurance policy. It's time to renew, why not review and make sure the policy is still the best choice for your home? Make any large, uninsured purchases this year? Now is the time to consider adding them to your policy.

- If you bought a new home from a new home builder, now is the time to look at the builder's one year warranty and turn in any defects you want them to fix.

- Renew your home warranty or purchase one. Your home is aging. Things will break.

Love your home! Celebrate good times! And when you need a new one, I want to help you wrap up one sale and unwrap the gift of a beautiful new memory making home!

Nice post Kristen, sounds like you've got tons of birthdays all around!  I dont remember many gifts, either, but remember the parties and friends.  Good reminder to check in on the house from time to time to make sure it stays in great shape.

Hi, John. Thanks for the comment. Yes. And my daughter's is in April. We certainly can't buy the house and then expect it to take care of itself!

I came from a low income single parent family. The choice was a gift or going out to eat
I always picked going out to eat.

Well, Rob, while money is not everything, I do hope real estate sales have offered you and yours opportunities you did not have as a child, as well as the wisdom to know a simple meal and time spent with them is the most treasured gift of all.

These are things that few home owners think about.  Once in they forget about a lot of stuff that should be done.

Hi William. I agree. Too many homeowners fail to follow basic steps to keep their home looking and behaving nicely! I did have a client once, though, who had a mostly brick home, with only a little trim and siding, who would give that little bit of trim and siding a new coat of exterior paint annually. Her fence stain, too. She wanted her home looking new ALL. THE. TIME. Love her. Still a best friend to this day.
