Brick colonials, Arts & Crafts Additions, Bumped out Ramblers
There are beautiful neighborhoods in Arlington Virginia
Marshall and I went to a party last Saturday night in Arlington Virginia. We were in the Garden City neighborhood of Arlington Virginia. Most of the homes are colonials with huge additions on the back of the houses. The yards are a decent size with large trees in the front and back yards.
Garden City in Arlington Virginia feels like home
It's funny how at home I felt in this neighborhood. Almost immediately, I really liked the houses, streets and overall feel of the area. It's the anti-cookie cutter neighborhood. Sure every other house is a colonial but every updated home has a fresh look on old fashioned ideals.
Since we were early for the party, we drove around and took in the neighborhood. We saw large screened in side porches, two story additions across the back of houses, ramblers with front additions with Arts & Crafts design. So much fun to see!
.....and then we went inside the brick colonial for the party-Wow! I felt like I was on the set for the 1980's movie, Roxanne. The 3 story addition on the back of the house created an enormous kitchen. That's, of course, where everyone congregated for the party. Huge wood beams across the ceiling, were from an old tree they cut down in the backyard.
A perfect blend of old & new-all basically coordinated but nothing too matchy-matchy.
The husband of the house is an architect and showed his talent by blending the old house with the new addition. The party was really fun and I fell in love with another neighborhood in Arlington Virginia!
