Eric, if you are performing in the group make sure you've got some spare parts for that French Horn in case of an emergency repair. I still remember that blog.

Andrew, that incident was a good reminder for me to be prepared!  Now I carry spare parts & tools whenever I have a gig.

Good for them.  Our food banks here (and I'm sure it's true all over the country) are seeing fewer donations due to the economy.

Have fun!

Charles -- Thank you!  The fellow who's contracting the orchestra (Bob Anderson) is a friend and colleague of mine.  I hope he hires me for this gig..

:)

Karen -- Food donations in the Twin Cities aren't keeping up with demand either.  It's a sad state of affairs.

Great Oratorio....and an even better cause. Are you in the orchestra?

Ruthmarie -- I just got an email about the job, so it looks like I'll be perfoming.  I've played Elijah a bunch of times, both overseas and in the States.  As oratorios go, it's a great piece.  I like Mendelssohn, especially the Midsummer Night's Dream music and the Violin Concerto.

It's funny, I worked with a choral director who DESPISED Mendelssohn - I could never get him to let me do anything from the Elijah.  Why he hated Mendelssohn I never fully understood.  He really LOVED French music and could play Couperin on harpsichord like no one else.  But he was very picky!  Sounds like a great gig for you.  I like a Midsummer NIght's Dream as well....I don't know the violin concerto that well I'm afraid.

Ruthmarie -- I had the privilege of performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Isaac Stern in Israel some years ago.  It's a great piece.

I never met anyone who disliked Mendelssohn..I wonder what that was all about.
