How does the world percieve who you are? How do you treat your fellow agents, your clients, your friends? Does it vary with what things are happening in your life, well of course it does.
There are times when you are juggling an overwhelming amount of problems, emails, phone calls, and people We all have those moments when we are a little short, or we feel hurried or irritated it is all just part of life. But have you ever stopped to notice that there are trends and general waves through groups of people.
Right now we are in a very fast paced market and with every change there is always a definate shift in attitudes. I was talking with an associate the other day about the current wave and I made the comment that it was actually kind of nice when the market was down. If you think about it buyers and sellers were more willing to compromise to come to a good deal for them both. Agents were able to take a bit more time and care with both clients and agents. Those with large egos were a bit more humbled, and those that were high strung were calmer and a little more methodical. Greed gave way to giving and people were just a bit more apt to be thankful for what they did have.
Lets face it what is good for the bank account isn't always good for us as human beings.
I recently had conversations with 3 different people all having a complaint. What probably started with a busy agent that dropped the ball esculated into a whole host of mistrusts, dislikes and complaints by the clients. Not only was it a bad commentary for those agents but it reflected badly on all of us.
How many opportunities to spread a little kindness do we miss when we are running at a high pace. How hard is it to adjust our thinking when we are irritated that things are not going quite the way it should. Can we effectively share our success without appearing like an ego maniac? A little thinking before we speak and a little giving before receiving can go a long way.
Humility is not a one time lesson that comes when times are bad, but a daily reminder of how far we have come and that we will always be learning new things.
