Am I a Green Realtor or do I Want to Destroy the Mother Ship?

Well, buckle your seatbelts astronauts because off we go on the green issue which has hit a critical mass (no pun intended) in the good ole USA in recent days.  I've read the posts and have been encouraged to opine so here it is for what it is worth.  If you are offended then allow me to apologize in advance.  If not I hope you get something from it

It's kind of amazing that some posters look down at others over the whole green issue. We've got a planet to save. Oh really?  Please cite the evidence for me that we are destroying the planet.  I've got two very good friends that are professors of Geosciences at Penn State University and have researched the trend for years.  They actually have labs all over the world manned by grad students to attempt to document the claims that we are ruining the world.  There is not enough room in this post for me to recap the findings but they are available.  The trend is good for their business since they can get enough funding to last several lifetimes and they are the first to admit it.   I will offer any poster on this board a free room for a visit to Penn State Geosciences to review the actual science involved.  Three nights on the house.  Come and do your homework.

Did you know that the entire Northeast was covered in glaciers all the way into Pennsylvania?  Which human actions caused these tremendous glaciers to melt?  I know we shouldn't ask those kind of questions because it doesn't fit the playbook.  You see it is all political.  The answer, of course, is that humans were not around at the time and the darn things melted anyway.  I was on top of a mountain last week and the soil looked like a beach.  Yep, there are fish fossils everywhere and at 2,000 feet of elevation it looks like you are at the beach.  That's because long ago and far away it was the beach.  Not a single human action caused the beach to become a mountain.

Am I green?  You bet I am but I studied environmental science in the 1970's when it wasn't cool.  I blogged about green building practices two years ago.  Tree's and paper?  Tree's are a fantastic renewable resource.  It doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful but come on already.  Yep, I changed my incandescent bulbs for fluorescent ones.  Of course the new bulbs only fill our landfills with mercury but we all feel better.

Want to help the environment?  Install geothermal heat and air conditioning in your homes and offices TODAY.  NO EXCUSES.  Do it today.  That would help the environment more than any other single thing you could do.  Don't tell me about the costs just do it.  Don't buy some stupid credit and pat yourselves on the back.  How about a solar panel or ten so you can generate your own electricity and actually sell it back to the grid?  Bet there aren't many of you doing that.  Do you carpool?  Use public transportation.  I bought a Toyota Corolla and get 44 MPG and with $3.60 gas happy to have done it.  There is another post on this board about a Realtor that is very successful and doesn't own a car.  If you believe we are killing the planet ditch your car today.  No excuses.  Live the talk.

How about wind farms?  20 miles away a company wants to install a wind farm but guess who has sued to prevent it?  The Sierra Club.  I thought they wanted to save Mother Earth?  Guess not really but if they tell us they do they get more donations.  The French generate 80% of all of their electricty with nuclear energy.  We haven't built a nuclear power plant in 30 years.  By the way I was seven miles away the day Three Mile Island occured and I still support nuclear energy.  We could burn corn but that is leading to food shortages in other countries (I know --we shouldn't talk about the facts).

Am I a green Realtor.  You bet I am.  Do I look down at others?  No way.  Do I want to ruin the planet?  Come on already.  Geez!

Tim, Good Post!  You are absolutely correct about each and every one of us being responsible for taking care of this earth we live in.  None of us have the right to look down upon others.

Vickie-

I always look for the good in people and I find it hard to believe that there are a subset of Americans that enjoy polluting the planet and look forward to global warming.  I, for one, want nothing but the best for our little planet but I do like to pay attention to the facts as I know them and not get caught up in the histeria that surrounds the issue.

Thanks for the comment.
