Afraid to Buy a Home

Donald Trump posted a blog today about the current housing market.  I thought I would share it here and see what the AR community thought about his point of view.

From Donald Trump's blog:

It’s hardly a surprise but in the midst of today’s terrible economy and the nation’s housing crisis, the majority of Americans say they don’t plan to buy a home anytime soon.

In fact, more than a quarter of homeowners worry that their home will lose value over the next couple of years, and one in seven mortgage holders are afraid that they won’t be able to make their monthly payments in time over the next six months.

People are worried that housing prices will continue to fall which is good news if you want to buy but obviously terrible if you have a house to sell.

In addition, we have record-high foreclosure rates and an estimated 9 million homeowners actually owe more on their homes than they are actually worth. If you’re in that situation, the best thing you can do is to sit tight if you can and try to weather out the storm.

If you’re one of the fortunate few who is looking to buy, you could hardly be in a better position. Shop around, find a house and make an offer. Chances are, any good deal will get accepted and if you have decent credit you should be able to get financing.

I think the housing market is going to get better and it’s going to get better fairly quickly. The market is depressed and that’s when you want to go in. So if you have the money, now’s when you want to go out and buy.

But that’s just my opinion. After all, what does Donald Trump know about real estate!

Hello Josef,

Thanks for posting.  I think he certainly jumped on the bandwagon with the media on how "terrible" the market is.  He did try to polish it up in the end, but I think that he's wrong.  I think he's wrong about the market and I think he's wrong for his sharing his yucky outlook!  What a way to motivate, Donald!

Josef, Have a wonderful week!

Josef....I would not say that Donald is wrong in what he is saying, but I think he speaks the truth. I can say that first hand. I have a property I would like to sell now, but with the market the way it is, I can't. So, I will "sit tight."

We all have to remember that housing is a National thing, but also a VERY, VERY local thing! I think prices are probably down all over, but some markets are worse than others. And then in a local market, you can have addtional sub groups that are facing problems. But as a buyer, I think you can get good deals now.

Thanks for Donald's blog...I'm going to subscribe!

Hi Josef,

Donald is correct about what he says in his post. Many Sellers do have to just "sit it out" and waite for this bad market to end and as for Buyers its a great time to buy. Just within the past week papers like the Wall Street Journal and the Boston Hearld have printed articles about the market bottoming out and that nows the time to buy.

If enough positive (but acurate) information is printed in the media or talked about on TV, I think many Americans will begin to feel better about the housing market.

Josef, I agree with you and the Donald!  It is a great time to buy if you're in a postition to do so, I also think that the housing market is about to turn around.  I hope that we're right!  Good post!
