Organizers of the fifth annual Pearland International Festival will use the event to aid Harvey victims and provide the community with a stress reliever, co-founder Joshua Hari says.
"This is one of those events that not only will raise awareness of the different nationalities and cultures in our area, but I also think it is going to be one of those things where people will be looking for an escape from all the horrific and catastrophic events of the storm," Hari said of the event, set for Sept. 15-16 at Pearland Town Center.
For each general admission ticket purchase that includes a donation of nonperishable food, the festival's organizing group, Pearland Foundation for the Performing and Visual Arts, will match $1 per item for up to five items.
The festival will also provide grants to students in the Pasadena and Pearland school districts to help replace band instruments damaged by Harvey. Also, all proceeds from food sales will go to the Pearland Neighborhood Center, Hari said.
