Website Addiction: Diminishing returns or Wise choice?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

I have an addiction.  Maybe it is just because I am a relatively new agent and don't know better or maybe it is because I cannot resist the ability to tinker and build stuff.

I think it is called "websiteitis".  I find myself awake at odd hours (like 2AM) working on some aspect of our website or other.  Sometimes I am attempting to implement some new gadget or maybe I am editing content.  Once in awhile I just study the statistics to see how things seem to be going.  Lately, I have been thinking about starting a Yahoo PPC campaign.

I can tell how much time I spend but what I cannot tell with any confidence is what, if any, of the things I am doing are actually building toward long term success (ie. future clients).  Of course I have got an IDX home search which seems mandatory.  I have also added widgets, articles.  I had a poll at one point but took it down because very few people actually voted.

Other than the IDX part of a website I am wondering what if anything other agents have used AND found successful in building their client base.

Anybody willing to share what one or two aspects of their website they feel they have had the best return with and how those were implemented?

Not a bad addiction to have unless you overdo it!  Not mind altering (sort of) like drugs and alcohol.  so go with it...I think once the newness of it has worn down you will slow down too.  Welcome to AR (another addiction!)

I think you have to mix the technology with some face time.  Meeting people is eventually what you need to do to be successful so doing that some of the time will get you going in that direction too.  No one method seems to work by itself.

Hi Howard,

For most of us, our websites/blogs are a work in progress. Hopefully always improving, yet not maybe always. I see it like fine-tuning, determining what's working and what's not.  As for results, it could take time. Each day and week can build on each other.

Question, are your using your URL on everythingyou do? Creating an online prescense in your community?

I say "you go, dude"! Your website is your 24/7 window to the world. It is crucial to have a good site. Be sure you include call to action and lots of local information.

OK, so it is important and all but is anyone willing tell what they have done that has worked well?
