Spring is here! That means all of us that own a home on or near Long Beach Island, or planning on visiting LBI, are thinking about beach badges.
Those badges cover costs associated with employing lifeguards and keeping the beaches clean and visitor-ready; and vary wildly in cost across cities and towns up and down the Island.

All badges are only valid in the town where they are bought; there is no badge available for multiple towns on LBI.
Barnegat Light:
- $30 - Preseason (price is good through June 5)
- $40 - Seasonal (after June 5)
- $22 - Weekly (Saturday through Friday)
- $12 - Senior (age 65, purchase in person with proof of age)
- $5 - Daily
Badges can be purchased at the Borough Hall during the off-season Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The beach badge booth is open limited hours during the spring, daily during the season 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For badges purchased on the beach from a badge checker, add $1 to the cost.
Beach Haven:
- $30 - Pre-season (good through June 15)
- $40 - Seasonal (after June 15)
- $20 - Weekly
- $5 - Daily
- Beach admissions is free for seniors (age 65), children under 12, and active military and their immediate family.
Harvey Cedars:
- $30 - Pre-season (through June 15)
- $40 - Seasonal (after June 15)
- $20 - Weekly
- $9 - Senior badges (age 65)
- $7 - Daily
- Individual active military are admitted free.
Long Beach Township:
- $30 - Pre-season (through June 15)
- $40 - Seasonal (after June 15)
- $20 - Weekly
- $7 - Daily
- $5 - Senior citizens with proof of age. Senior badges issued prior to the 2010 season – white badge with red/blue logo – are lifetime badges. “If these older senior badges are lost/misplaced, new badges can be purchased for $5 each for the current season,” the township explains. “We are not able to supply replacements.”
- Veterans and active military – and their spouses and children – are welcome to use the township beaches at no cost, provided they show valid military identification (such as DD-214) either at the Beach Badge Shack or to a badge checker. “The actual ID, photocopy or cell phone picture of same” is acceptable, the township notes.
Ship Bottom:
- $35 - Pre-Season (until May 31)
- $45 - Seasonal (beginning June 1)
- $20 - Weekly
- $7 - Daily
- $10 - Seniors (age 65) Purchase in person for each ticket, available only at the municipal offices with ID.
Beach Badges are required at both bay and ocean beaches from mid-June through Labor Day. Badges can be purchased in person after May 1, 2019 in the Borough Hall with cash or a personal check.
Surf City:
- $30 - Pre-season (until May 31)
- $40 - Seasonal (beginning June 1)
- $20 - Weekly
- $8 - Daily
- Valid Surf City beach badges are required for all individuals from 12 years of age to 64 years of age whenever lifeguards & badge checkers are on duty.
