The Keawala'i Congregational Church is located in one of the most picturesque locations in the world. It is oceanfront in Makena Maui. Makena is located on South Maui. When you look out over the Pacific Ocean from the grounds at the Keawala'i Congregational Church you can see the islands of Lana'i, Kaho'olawe, and the Molokini crater. The Keawala'i Congregational Church was founded in 1832. The church was originally built of grass and eventually rebuilt out of stone and wood. In 1856 the Sunday School raised $70 for a church bell. The bell was delivered in 1860 and installed in 1862. In 1864 the church raised $80 to purchase the land where the church currently sits. During the 1960s and 1970s much of the church structure was renovated. During the 1990s the wood floor was replaced and the wood alter was built. The Keawala'i Congregational Church is a magical place to visit. The history, beauty, location, and positive energy are all great reasons to visit.
