I am writing this because I am angry about an article I read about Real Estate Agents. I am not including the link to it because I don't want to give it anymore attention then it needs. It was a mean article and so many untruths to it.
The first 2 sentences are true: "For most people, real estate agents are a necessary part of buying or selling a house. They know the industry inside and out and make the task a lot easier for you". We can all agree this part is true.
But, Stop There Because The Rest Of The Article Is Not Worth Reading!
Now, don't get me wrong, there are those in every business that push the point of truthfulness, but I believe this is only a small portion. There may be not-so-great Agents, but the vast majority are more good than bad. Those are the ones that the media should be talking about.
I'm not going to go into the details of the article. It talked about Real Estate tricks, how you may not get what you are promised, how Agents may not disclose who they are working for, how commissions are paid, or how to watch out for their referrals. Media coverage of Real Estate can be so untrue. It is full of inaccuracies and untruthfulness.
I have firsthand knowledge of how the media gets things wrong. Larry and I had a listing of a log cabin home. A reporter from a popular news organization called and asked if they can interview us about our listing. The phone interview was only about 15 minutes, but she asked different questions about the home and asked if it was an historic property. I told her "no, no, no. The seller's had it newly built on their lot in 1995". She asked a few more questions and I asked her to email me a copy before it prints. She said she would email me before it was to be printed. She never did. Two weeks later our Broker called to congratulate us on the article. It read "Unique historic log cabin. Maybe George Washington slept here". Of course I tried to call the reporter and then left a message with the editor. No one called back!
Let's talk about the Positive aspects of REALTORS®.
REALTORS® Are Licensed Professionals!
They are trained to guide you through every phase of a sale, whether you are buying or selling. The relationships most Agents have with their clients are their top priority. They provide Fiduciary Duty, Confidentiality and Privacy. Their clients' interest always comes first.
Working with a REALTOR® will provide you with honesty, knowledge, integrity, professionalism, negotiation, strong communication skills, resourcefulness, and finalize the entire transaction until Closing.
Many news outlets have reporters that publish stories that are misleading, and do not issue corrections with respect to inaccurate reporting.
The Bottom Line:
The media are the ones that you need to have concern about...not your hard-working REALTOR®!
