My mom was on the same floor recovering from surgery at GW Hospital when Reagan came in.  One day we're able to visit, the next day it's Secret Service from top to bottom!

I was not a Reagen fan when he was in office. I have still not raised him to the demigod level that many have. However, he was a much better president than I gave him credit for while in office. Certainly the most effective in my lifetime. He had a tremendous amount of insight and I quote him almost as much as I quote Thomas Jefferson.

Two of my favorites are:

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Mike - The more I read your pieces the more alike I find that we think.  Hmmm?  Like you I was not a fan of Reagan and I certainly don't believe he's the demigod so many think (you should see how many buildings and landmarks in DC Congress tried to rename after his death).  But I do see he's better than I thought he was too.  I never really knew many of his quotes mainly because I was both young and out of the country for most of his Presidency.  Looking back, I have to say I enjoy his wit!  Could you imagine if he was in a room with Churchill?

Sue, awesome quotes.  I think Reagan was the greatest president we've seen in the 20th century.  He certainly did a lot to bring back some foundational principles that we have now strayed from.
