Political Phone Surveys

By

I answered the phone, and there I was, in the middle of a political survey.  What did they want to know?  My age, race and political party affiliation for starters.

Then...they wanted to know who I'd voted for in recent local elections.

Then...they asked if I had strongly positive, somewhat postive, neutral, somewhat negative or strongly negative views of OBAMA and McCAIN.

To top it off, the grand finale was, would I vote for a candidate that told me I was overtaxed and said he was going to reduce taxes, OR one that said they would fix the healthcare crisis and say they would push toward alternative energy sources?

This entire survey makes me SICK.  OBAMA or McCAIN are out there wanting to know what they can SAY to gain my vote.  Not what they can DO.  And does it really boil down to those two or three different issues.  PLEASE!  Clearly neither one is out here living in the real world.

How about this:  LET YOUR ACTIONS (VOTES, AFFILIATIONS, ETC.) MATCH YOUR WORDS.   If they don't match, I'm not interested.  Frankly, my vote is too previous to waste on anyone who is doing anything less.

Ah, the old "let's see which way the political winds are blowing" trick. So they don't really stand for anything, do they?

Chris Ann, the worst telemarketer or political surveys are done by the robots. They wear us all out.

Richard:  You nailed it.  I hate the "say anything" to get elected mode they are in.  Makes me feel dirty.

Gary:  Unfortunately, this one was not done by a robot, but a mush-mouthed teenager.  I had to have him repeat thinga bout two or three times.  And at least once, he assumed an answer for me which sent me through the roof.

I won't even participate in that mess.  I can't believe you even had the patience to participate!

Chris, I'm so tired of receiving these calls too, and the political mailings. (I send those back in the handy envelope provided with a note telling the candidate how disappointed I am!)

Chirs:  Call it morbid curiosity, but I want to know what they are asking; how political candidates and those advising them think; and how those polls you here the results of can be skewed to generate specific reponses.

Debbie:  I like that idea, and don't know why it never occurred to me to do the same with those mailings.  Thanks!

It would be nice to have a candidate that actually stands for what they believe, What a novel idea.

Kevin:  It really is.  Our political candidates are really the product of focus groups and marketing strategies.  If America thought a guy in a BARNEY suit was credible and someone they would vote for, both of these guys would be out there looking like furry mounds of purple.

Spokane Washington Real Estate Expert!Yeah, the only reason i would is because I think that there needs to be a common sense answer. But yes, the questions are so things can be modified to better fit what people care about, but then again that isn't all bad if they would follow through.

Ross:  Follow through is the answer.  But I don't see a lot of that in politics.  At least for the things that citizens care about.  People have an easier time following through on the things they believe in, vs. whatever is important to the citizens that would elect them.
