Good Afternoon,   It has been quite awhile since I've written.  I have been recovering from a spinal fusion I had done on June 9th.  I'm doing well but it is a slow recovery.   I wanted to fill everyone in on the happenings of the past month..   In early June we sent out packages to 25 camps in Iraq and Afghanistan with drink mixes, snacks, lots of toiletries and Independence Day decorations so they would have them in time for the holiday.  Many of the camps we were shipping to are very remote locations in Afghanistan.  I've already received some thank you notes and the goodies are very appreciated.  We also shipped a photo printer and lots of ink that our organization purchased for a camp near Mosul, Iraq.  This is so the troops at that camp could print photos of themselves and send them home to their loved ones. The printer was donated at Christmas time and we found a camp that could use it but they needed to have ink to go with it at it can't be purchased over there.  We found we had enough money in the budget to finally afford to purchase some extras so we did.   I wanted to let everyone know that we are still up and running as usual and our collections bins have been empty lately.  We sure could use some donations to send to the troops over the summer.  We have NO inventory right now.  We just purchased 5 cases of 500 ea packets of True Lemon and Lime so that we would have something to put in water bottles. It is over 120 degrees in Iraq now.  We could use some salty (non-crushable) snacks (peanuts, etc.), slim jims, dried fruits, etc. We replaced the box at St. James in Leesburg with plastic bins.  We also have bins at: Sherry Wilson & Co. in Purcellville; Greater Atlantic Bank,  Corpus Christi Mission, & Knowledge Points all in South Riding; ERA-Realty in Fairfax;and MDI Imaging in Ashburn.   Please read the attachments I've enclosed and have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.   Thank you again for your continued support....keep reading below signature   Mary   THE ONLY FLAG THAT DOESN'T FLY
this is awesome (see attached photo).
Between the fields where the flag is planted, there are 9+ miles of
flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown by
seed companies. It's a beautiful place, close to Vandenberg AFB.! Check
out the dimensions of the flag. The Floral Flag is 740 feet long and 390
feet wide and maintains the proper Flag dimensions, as described in
Executive Order #10834. This Flag is 6.65 acres and is the first Floral
Flag to be planted with 5 pointed Stars, comprised of White Larkspur.
Each Star is 24 feet in diameter; each Stripe is 30 feet wide. This Flag
is estimated to contain more than 400,000 Larkspur plants, with 4 -5
flower stems each, for a total of more than 2 million flowers.
