Yikes! That looks pretty bad. I am guessing that the HW Heater was located in the attic above the garage to have done that much damage to the roof structure?
Great picture John. Pressure relief valves are much cheaper than this repair. Always install a new one with the new water heater.
Oh my goodness. This is seriously a bad situation. We have seen these sorts of issues before and they are never good.
Oh My Gosh! I've heard of this happening before but most people tell me it's very rare. After seeing this picture, I think I will certainly give it more priority. I hope no one was injured.
Have your water heater inspected once a year. Change out your T&P valve every two years.

Ouch, did it shoot through the roof there? Duh, I guess I can watch the you-tube - never mind - Thanks for sharing. ~Rita
John, That is a great example of what can go wrong with a hot water tank. The Mythbusters episode is great too. It really illustrates the danger involved when the equipment is deficient.
That's incredible. I always tell my customers to make sure they change out their pressure relief valve every other year. Thanks for the link as well.
John,
Powerful picture. Any dangers other than water leaks from tankless water heaters?
