Real Estate Agent with Realty USA - Amherst/Clarence
I recently saw on of MY listings posted on Craigslist through another Real Estate Company.  It is listed in the MLS, but can they do that?

Wow... don't you just love some agents.  Did someone from your office posted your listing or a totally different agency?  I would think that it would be common courtesy to ask your permission first.

Not sure exactly what the law is on this though...  you might want to check with your broker.

Check your listing agreement and if you have one in your state your employment contract. This is the document in Oregon that allows us to advertise.  They could be walking some pretty merky waters.

Generally, through the MLS service, there is an "aye or nay" system to allow this. Some have a check box such as "anyone can advertise" on the input form and some don't

Check with your broker. He may allow the anyone can advertise scenario. Check with your local board or MLS. It may be allowed under local rules.

That is a surprise to me! How unsettling...I dont think it is wise or ethical. Did you contact the Realtor ?

It was from a different COMPANY.  Not from some one in my office or my company.  I didn't contact the Realtor, but I did mention it to my manager today and she is going to check on this.  I wouldn't mind I guess if I was getting the contacts!

As you know some agents are unethical and outright criminal. It's the 5% that makes the 95% look bad.

From what I understand, this is a violation of the NAR code of ethics unless you gave them written permission or it is being advertised via IDX.

They should have asked for permission first. But why worry? If they can help you sell in this market, then they are a blessing in disguise.

Mary- I don't need to check with my broker and I don't need to check the law. If another agent is impressed enough with my listing and wants to promote it (without misrepresentation) and can bring me a ready, willing and able buyer - filing a complaint will be the last thing that will come to mind. Isn't that what my seller wants.

I have to agree with Larry. Free Exposure! I would love for another agent to sell one of my listings...even if they got that buyer off of Craigslist.

I agree free exposure is great.  And I do list on craigslist also.  But there seems to be a company around here that was flooding Craigslist with the listings.  It just caught me off guard.
