A Beginners Guide to Craigslist

By
Real Estate Agent

Even though Craigslist has been on the go one way or another since 1995, there are some individuals who still have absolutely no idea how to use it. These people are surely missing a fantastic opportunity to belong to a continually evolving on line community. This community provides a superb resource for retrieving information, getting a job, meeting and dating other people, buying and selling goods on line and discussing important topics with others. In this article you will find a brief introduction to the main sections on Craigslist.

The Community Section

This section of Craigslist is extremely useful if you want to find local information such as events and activities taking place, so this is clearly the place to take a look at if you need to know about anything that is happening in your own area. They also have a local lost and found section too.

The Discussion Forums

An ideal place to say what you think about something and be given the opportunity to answer questions and share information with others. In order for the user to find other people who share the same interests, this section is split into categories, some of which you have to log in to post whilst it is not necessary on others.

The For Sale Section

This speaks for itself, this section is categorized and each sub section gives details of the type of item to be found in there. There is also an items wanted part to this section where requests can be made when users are looking for something particular. Some items listed in the for sale section do not require a fee to be paid. They may be free or available by bartering.

The Gigs Section

Along the lines of the jobs section these advertisements within the gigs section usually refer to one off opportunities and not to continuous work. An example of this would be an advertisement for volunteers to help out at a particular one day event, whereas regular and full time work positions would be featured in the jobs section.

The Housing Section

This section presents the user with various options in connection to lodging. Featuring available rentals, sublet opportunities, people looking for lodgers or house sharers, house and apartment exchanges, real estate sales, holiday lets, office and parking space rentals or sales and storage facilities.

The Jobs Section

This is by far the most detailed section on Craigslist. Broken down into several different categories enabling the user to look for vacancies within their chosen career with a choice or part time or full time, this section also offers telecommute and contract positions to users.

The Personals Section

This is where you can meet and form relationships both of a platonic and romantic nature. Restricted to users over the age of 18, this section has several categories, allowing for both heterosexuals and homosexuals to find possible dates.

The Resumes Section

This is the place where people looking for work can present their resumes. A catchy headline is a good way of standing out from the crowd in this section as it is not categorized for specific types of work being presented.

The Services Section

This is where service providers can place their ads for the services they have on offer. Advertisements are to be placed in the relevant categories but if there is no specific category the ad can be placed in the generic small business part of this section.

Good information.  I have an acct with them but would like to be able to advertise in various locations like NY even though I live in Florida.  I am not looking to double advertise but would like to be able to place ads in NY.  Do you have any advice???

I love craigslist, I have sold a lot of personal items on there.  It is great because it is free!
