No Headboard? Easy new solution that is great for Stagers!

By
Home Stager with GreatStages Home Staging and Redesign

I am always on the look out for new headboard ideas. Many times the budget concerns of homeowners preclude purchasing new furniture or even renting certain inventory that can be costly. Like many of you, I have used screens, metal work, art and other things to provide the look of a headboard. I have also created fabric covered headboards using plywood, batting and fabric. They look very nice but for staging they still create some big issues. They are heavy, hard to transport and take up quite a bit of storage space. I just found this product which I recently used for the first time. You get the look of an upholstered headboard minus the all of the other problems - they are INFLATABLE! Backdrop Headboards, Upholstered Inflatable Headboards Quite ingenious and they look great. I did not attach it to the wall - just pulled the mattress out a bit to slide the headboard behind, then piled on the pillows to hold it in place.

This isn't a product that I would readily use in every home, but it is a great budget-friendly solution that is also back-friendly! They come in a wide variety of styles and shapes to suit many decors.

Kathy -

Interesting product. I will check it out. If you are looking for a light-weight headboard you can make a frame out of 1 x 2 wood and staple fabric to it. I usually make them really tall to work in large rooms and they are so light you just have to use 2 nails. I just picked up some great fabric today to make another one, it's a quilted pattern used for outerwear apparently. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Thanks for sharing this great product!

Hi-

I was re-reading past posts to get some great ideas, and think this is definitely one of them. Unfortunately, when I tried to click on the link within your post, it asked me to provide a user name and password. Suggestions? I'd love to get more information on the headboard.

Leigh - They must have changed domains, but I found them and fixed the link. Thanks for letting me know about it and best wishes on your staging projects. This is a really great product that is perfect for stagers.

Thank you for the quick response. Have you tried them? Any issues with them deflating?

They really look terrific! Thanks again!

Leigh, yes I have used them and had great success. The picture in my blog is from one of my projects. I haven't had any issues with deflating. That particular one was in place for two and a half months and never needed a "top-off".

Kathy, from your photo, it looks like you used the brushed twill style.  Am I right?  Have you seen the ones in faux leather?  I am wondering how close to the real thing they look...

Great idea by the way.  I might just use it in my own home for my son's twin naked bed.

Diane ~ Yes, it really is a solution that is budget-friendly and these days that is very important!

Joanne ~ You are correct. The headboard in the photo is the brushed twill. It has a very soft finish that almost looks like microsuede from a distance. I also have the faux leather in chocolate and I'm very happy with it, too. While inexpensive, they are well made and have substance to them.

Susan - yes, it is a product that seems like it was invented just for stagers! I have used them many times now and my clients love them, too. A nice side benefit for my clients is that I can now stage a bedroom at a more budget friendly price-point if I use them.
