On November 1, 2008, teenage drivers and their parents are invited to attend Sir Isaac Newton's Driving School at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA. The event is sponsored by Long & Foster, and will be taught by members of the Northern Virginia Corvette Club. They will even serve you pizza!!
This is NOT your standard driving school. This is a driving school that will help your teenagers understand why they may lose control of a car, and help to prevent it! Parents are encouraged to attend the classroom portion of the event, and stay to watch their teenagers in action.
The Northern Virginia Corvette Club's driving instructors are highly skilled drivers. The series of exercises that they will put your teenager through is described as, "devilish". By the end of the day, your teenager will understand the applied physics of driving and be safer drivers for it. Everything will be done at slow speeds, in a safe environment.
Bring your quarters. While there is no fee to attend this event, for each cone on the course that your teenager knocks over, one quarter will be collected. Money collected will be donated to a charity to be chosen by the Corvette Club.
Again, this is a free event, but space is limited. No drive-in's. No car sharing. No trucks. No SUVs or vans. At least one parent or guardian must accompany drivers under 18! Registration closes on October 28th. On the day of the event, registration will start at 7am, with class starting at 8am. Ending at 5pm, it's a full day of work, but promises to be fun.
