I saw this video tonight on KPTV 12 News. It represents the history of home values in the U.S. since 1890, factoring out the effects of inflation. It is based on existing home sales, not new construction. It is a great visual representation that lets you see how incredible real estate has been as an investment over the long term.

That's quite a clever little graph and roller coaster ride. I'm a bit concerned about how high and steep it has become near the end.
