Rocky Mountain Institutes's Home Energy Briefs (HEBs) are a series of nine practical guides describing what the average homeowner can do to save energy. These reports give paople easy to understand ways can save on energy use in their homes and part of the funding for the reports came from the National Association or Realtors. Report number 4 is about Space Heating. The 8 page report includes tips on:

  •  passive heating and heat loss
  • types of space heating systems
  • sizing and installation of space heating systems
  • considerations for replacing space heating systems

Report Number 1 is about the building envelope and this 10 page report is loaded with information about:

  • Heat Loss and heat gain
  • Insulation
  • Sealing leaks and cracks
  • Windows

The other six Energy Briefs cover

  • Lighting
  • Space Cooling
  • Water Heating
  • Cleaning Appliances
  • Electronics,
  • Kitchen Appliances
  • Whole System Design

Rocky Mountain Institute ® (RMI)is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1982 by resource analysts L. Hunter Lovins and Amory B. Lovins. Started as a small group of colleagues focusing on energy policy, it has since grown into a broad-based institution with approximately eighty full-time staff.

Thanks for the post. I have a new condo development that I am marketing and we have many energy efficient features. However, one of my favorite is the tankless hot water heating system. Basically, the system supplies hot water on demand as oppose to heating a tank of water in preparation for potential use.

Great information as a Thermal imaging inspector I will pass this information along to all my clients. Thank you for posting this. This is similar to the type of information I try to give my clients when I do passive energy audits on their homes.
