Not a Pretty Picture

Having have been a large company, with 100 agents and now, a smaller company, with 15 agents. I know how tough it is to commit to training these people, and follow up with their progress. I love the Real Estate industry, but I don't like what it has become. Progress is great, I love the new technology and everything that goes with it. What  I don't like, is there are so many untrained agents or should I say unknowledgeable agents, who have been pushed out on the street to sell. I remember a time when the broker took bride in is or her office and a new person was'nt just turned loose to find their way. I find coop situations where some of these people seem not to know what their responsibilities are or at least they don't act like it. Have companies gotten so big and the people of responsibility move so far away from what running a office is about. The situations I see are with some pretty large companies. I know that this is a new day, but good old training will never die, nor will monitoring the progress of a new associate. I could say alot more and give examples, but thats not necessary. We have gotten so caught up in all the new things, that we are forgetting the basics.

I'm with a large office - everyday I see new Agents.  I'm ashamed to say I don't even know half their names and I'm not exactly and old timer (only 3.5 years).  I'm curious which do you prefer (large or smaller office).  Of course there is always alot of recruiting going on so I'm wondering what makes an Agent make the change to another office.  Our office offers weekly training classes open to everyone so for me it was wonderful to be with this office right from the beginning.

I'm in an office that provides a great initial training.  I don't want to knock it and the hard problem is that so much was thrown at me, I had trouble getting it all.  Then when I was sent off to my office, the training seemed to end.  My manager doesn't do a whole lot with us.  Only time I've seen him intervene is when other agents in the office come to him and say so and so is really screwing things up.  You better talk to them!

We've got an amazing mentoring program in our office, which I'll be apart of for almost another year.  If you're hanging your name out there for everyone to see, then you probably want qualified, knowledgeable, honest and hard-working people in your office to represent you.  Training should be mandatory for everyone new in the business.  There's way too much to learn and real estate is an on-going learning process.
