History Was Made Last Night…What Does the Rest of the World Think? A Pictorial View of the World's Headlines

By

Last night, regardless of who won the presidential election, history was going to be made.

Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin would have been the first female Vice President had John McCain been elected.

But the night belonged to Barack Obama as he became the first African American to be elected to the highest office in the world.

As we drink our morning coffee, read the morning headlines and wonder what the next four years will bring, I thought it would be interesting to see what the rest of the world thinks about America's historical election.

So, I scoured the Internet to find the headlines of the world's daily newspapers. These are just a few of the ones I thought were interesting and I wanted to share them with my fellow readers.

Take note of Iran's newspaper. It appears that there is no mention of the election.

Also, look at Venezuela's front page. I'm no Spanish language major, but it seems a little derogatory to me.

Lastly, I had to put my favorite headline of all time in here. It's from the New York Post and it's just too funny not to share with a broader audience.

I hope you enjoy this Blog as much as I enjoyed posting it.

I know my son, who is in Cairo Egypt, was with a gathering of friends all last night watching the results. Remember, they're 7 hours ahead of EST, so when they announced the winner it was 6am. His friends had been up all night.

And now I've broken my own moratorium by reading your blog, the only political one I will comment on all day.

I agree with Laura...I am curious about what the rest of the world thinks about Obama.  Only time will tell....I hear the Russian Leader is pleased?!?!

Linda - I knew you couldn't maintain your own moratorium! The news, for better or worse, depending on your political views, was just too big to stay away from!

George - Que pasa, amigo? Por qué no hizo usted entiende el periódico?

Laura - I'm with you. I thought it was pretty cool to see what they were saying in other countries.

Cecily - Nope! I've gotta keep the masses informed! But this will probably be my last political post for a long while. Now about those bears... *

Jane - Only time will tell if the rest of the world receives Obama as a true leader. We can only hope the next four years are better than the last few.

Craig -- This AZ girl isn't surprised. I do know this, this was history in the making and grabbing a New York Post paper today would be worth hanging onto for years to come. I'm not disappointed, not overly elated either.. I just know that the shoes to fill are huge and I know I wouldn't want to be wearing them. Let's hope that Obama has this country's best interest at heart. I hope he does...I hope he does..

Elisha - You're very welcome. thanks for stopping by!

Candace - I'm hearing you loud and clear. I'm hoping Obama's got the country's best interests at heart. If not, we're all in trouble! I'm the eternal optimist though and I'm thinking he's going to do the right thing and the best he can to get us on track again.

Cecily- thanks for agreeing with me. I didn't say we should IGNORE politics, just not have to write, talk, etc about nothing else. I suggested we all LISTEN and read just for today, instead of having to get out own 2 cents in.  After the dust settles and we've formulated our thoughts, then we can post blogs.

Meanwhile, let's sell some houses!
