If Youre From A Small Town, This Will Bring You Back (HILARIOUS)

I tripped over an old blog of mine and thought it was worth posting again...Its just plain funny.

A lot of you guys know that I grew up in a really small town...

Now, "small" is a bit of a relative term...Im talking S-M-A-L-L.  Like, less than 1,000 people.  There were 29 kids in my graduating class...That type of small.

If you want to know, its Plains, MT.  ...Tiny little town on Hwy 200 about 75 miles west of Missoula.

Anyway...I tripped over the following list the other day and nearly hospitalized myself laughing over how true it really is...and I just had to share.

You know you are from a small town when...

  • You were in 4-H.
  • You know what 4-H is.
  • You said the 'f' word and your parents knew within the hour.
  • You ever went cow-tipping or snipe hunting.
  • School gets canceled for state events.
  • You have ever taken a trailer or dog to school.
  • Your teachers calls you by your older siblings names.
  • Your teachers remember when they taught your parents.
  • You were ever in the Homecoming parade.
  • You have ever gone home for Homecoming.
  • It was cool to date someone from the neighboring town.
  • You can't help but date a friend's ex-girlfriend.
  • Football coaches suggest that you haul hay for the summer to get stronger.
  • You had senior skip day.
  • You ever went to parties at a pasture, barn, or in the middle of a dirt road.
  • You can name everyone you graduated with.
  • The whole school went to the same party after graduation.
  • You wore your letter jacket after your 19th birthday.
  • You used to drag "main."
  • You bragged to your friends because you got pipes on your truck for your birthday.
  • You see at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town.
  • It is normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawnmower.
  • You decide to walk somewhere for exercise and 5 people pull over and ask if you need a ride.
  • You don't give directions by street names or directions.  Instead, you use references (turn by Nelson's house, go two blocks east of the Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track field).
  • You give directions using "the" stop light as a reference.  (My town still doesnt have a stop light...)
  • The country club golf course had only 9 holes.
  • Getting paid minimum wage is considered a raise.
  • You refer to anyone with a house newer than 1980 as the "rich people"
  • You think the people in the city dress funny, then you pick-up on the trend two years later.
  • Anyone you want can be found at either the Dairy Queen or the feed store.
  • The city council meets at the coffee shop.
  • Even the ugly people enter beauty pageants.
  • You can charge at all the local stores.
  • The closest McDonald's is 45 miles away.
  • So is the closest mall.
  • Weekend excitement involves a trip to a Wal-Mart.

Cute! I'm not from a small town, but my husband is! He graduated in a class of 54. There was tractor parking at his high school. Yikes! Cute post! ~A:)

How about this one.  If you were lucky enough to drive a car to school instead of riding the bus, you left the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked.

Are you sure you weren't talking about Newton, IL? My husband was from Newton and when we married (we're now divorced) we moved from the Bay Area of CA to Newton. Oh boy! Culture shock. I'd never experienced anything like that. When we dragged the "main," we'd go down to the Dog 'N Suds, drive thru it, and then back out to Miller's Gas Station. Remember beer parties in corn fields? Everyone parked in a circle and left their lights on. What was really strange to me about Newton is that the town had as many people living in it as the students at the high school I attended in San Jose! LOL. I loved it, and wouldn't trade that experience for anything. I think as I grow older, I'd like to live in a sweet tlittle town like that one. One light, and 4 bars, on each side of the square!
