What Can You Do? Be a Rainmaker!

At the end of the day, that's what people want to know:  What can we do about the nation's problems?  In truth, the answer is, not much!

Oh yes, we can write our congressmen, call up talk radio hosts and complain about things, try to vote the bums out of office, all of which can work but rarely do much good.  Our voting process is antiquated, voters are completely apathetic and uninformed and not much is going to change that in the near future.

What we CAN do is localize our solutions to these national problems.  Sort of disconnect the solution from the problem or vice versa.  Having a financial crisis locally?  Quit buying Christmas gifts online from some company who employs like three people working for starvation wages in a third-world country!  Hello?  Instead, go down to your local clothing, toy, electronic, gift store and buy something from Ed and Martha, the folks who've been in town since the 60's and have contributed their time and money to every local charity, high school sports team, Kiwanis, Lions club membership, for the past 40 years.  You don't need to spend a lot, just a small purchase.  Then get on Active Rain and blog about the experience.  Were your dollars spent appreciated?  Did you feel good afterward?  Let's try to put our communities' needs on an equal footing with our own needs and see if we can't reconnect to our local roots, neighbors and businesses.  Then blog your little heart out about it on Active Rain!  Be a Rainmaker!
