Twitter is My Nemesis

By
Real Estate Agent with Cherimie Crane & Associates

I have been wondering around the abyss of social networking trying desperately to filter fluff from fortitude.

Some are obvious in their validity such as Active Rain and Trulia.

Zillow..hmmm the jury is still out. Most times I log on to Zillow I find myself entranced by some off the wall argument by two bored bloggers referencing anything but real estate.

Needless to say my IQ drops like the DOW.

Twitter is my Nemesis. I am somehow oddly attracted to it without any clue on how to use it to my benefit. It has an odd similarity to my dating life.

I think I'm tweeting, when I am supposed to Twit and vice- versa.

In any other forum, I would be petrified to have so many strangers "following me". In Twitterland I am assuming this is a good thing.

Although I read of the benefits of Twitter, each time I log on I feel as though I am at a wedding where everyone knows the bride but me.

My personality has always led me more toward leaping before, and often without, looking.

So if you are a Twexpert, could you please give it to me in a nutshell?

Nutshell meaning short complete sentences that explain exactly what the heck Twitter is supposed to do.

Cherimie,

I think I am starting to "get it" just a little bit but honestly whatever I got, Im not sure what it is : ) .  I guess for the most part it is another way to network and have some of your info be communicated to your followers which helps get more traffic to your sites and your blog.  Also it is a way to network with people in your area and provide info about your neieghborhood and your city and the like.  But then, there is the "etiquette" to not post your own links that much either.  So it is a paradox.. I listened to the Active Rain "Twitter Gone Wild".. learned a little bit, but not too much : )

In any event, we are @thesomersteam on Twitter.  Looking foward to seeing you there !  ~ Chris

I TRY SO HARD to get into Twitter and I just can't.  I follow a bunch of people and vice versa but I just don't get it.  I thought I did one day and then it went away again!  I'll be looking for the feedback you get!

Its just a way to build your network -- just like the people at Church, Country Club, or soccer. Communicate like you are at a cocktail party - then find those who are interested in you or you are interested in them -- and develop a repport with them. Craft centers of influence , look for interesting people and tweeters.

Hi Cherimie - Take a look at the posts in the Twitter group right here in the Rain for a lot of great insights and ideas. I've been using Twitter for about a year now and made some great contacts through it. You can always email, DM, or tweet me questions. My Twitter ID is @LVRealEstate.

I am with you Cherimie.  I try to Tweet but then I get worried I am doing something wrong.  I am on the edges of that pool and don't know if I will ever fully enter the deep end.

Cherimie this is funny:

In any other forum, I would be petrified to have so many strangers "following me".

I "get" twitter, I just don't get it.  If that makes sense.  I guess about as much sense as Twitter.

It is a way to get people into your little world, kind of like broadcasting your life in text messages.

I have not used it yet, not sure if I will.

Twitter is a great place to listen (before you leap).

Try Twitterlocal to tune into conversations in your neck of the woods.

Twitterfeed is a great way to attract visitors/followers/stalkers since it automatically sends your blog post link to the twits (is that the right word?)

Just my 3 cents.

I am embarassed to say that I am still not even sure what Twitter is!  I get too trapped in the Rain as it is, do I really need another place to play?
