My last three Thanksgivings have been spent with other missionaries. One in Managua, Nicaragua and the last two in Walakitang, Nicaragua, a jungle village along the Rio Coco River.
This picture was taken at a local missionaries house in Managua. Each year they host a turkey dinner for other missionaries living in the same area. It was a great opportunity to just relax, talk, and share stories.
In the jungle the fare de jour was roast pig and rice & beans. Our group bought a pig, which was brought up river in a canoe (if you can imagine that!) and cooked Kahlua style. We got a little hunger and impatient so we ended up finishing up the cooking over the kitchen stove. It was a tasty treat after many days of rice & beans!
This turkey picture, strangely, was taken in Nicaragua. A watercolor of a turkey seemed odd decor, but whatever, it fits in here perfectly!
They have been great Thanksgivings, filled with adventure and fellowship, but I must say I am looking forward to spending this year at home with family.
Turkey is a favorite of mine and I can't wait for those turkey sandwiches to come!
Happy Thanksgiving!
