Thinking of a NEW PHONE? Here's a great site to compare features....

Over the last few months I've been toying with the idea of a new phone.  I have the original iPhone and it's definitely an impressive piece of technology.  However, when it comes time to do any big software updates my phone locks up and I end up at the Apple store (about 45 minutes away) for service.  So, now i just don't do the updates.   The basics of the phone work great; love the contacts, touch screen, graphics, etc.  And, I love having the iPod right there.  If I had to list some issues (other than the updating), I'd say the speaker phone is not loud enough, email doesn't support attachments & doesn't always 'download from server' which drives me crazy!

Anyway, after visiting the Blackberry booth at NAR I was convinced I wanted the Blackberry Storm.  Currently an AT&T customer, I would have to switch to Verizon (that's the only carrier who offers the Storm).  So I called AT&T to see how much it would cost to make the carrier change.  YIKES!  Since I'm in the middle of my sign-up term, it will cost me $175 to release from AT&T....plus, another $175 to take my daughter's phone to Verizon as well (if I wanted to).   The lady asked me why I wanted to make the change - I was honest & told her I wanted the Storm.  She had me to go this website (it's NOT an AT&T site); www.phonescoop.com .  This is a GREAT site!!!

Just type in the name of the phone you're thinking about in the top right corner, then click 'Jump to Phone'.  Under the photo of the phone, click 'Compare side-by-side'.  You can enter several phones and compare their features.  It's great!  Bottom line, I found that the Blackberry Bold will be a better phone for me and I don't have to switch carriers!  No touch screen though....

Great site for comparing phones.  One day I may give up my TREO...but not today.  The GE Supra Key application is hard to let go.  Thanks for the post.  The TREO is bulky, but my iPod Nano is tiny.

Sally & David, Definitely copy Santa :-) ..... that's my plan, too!  I have printed out the page and left it on his desk - I can't do much more than that!!  Happy holidays to you, too!

Keith, I had a Treo before the iPhone and really liked it as well.  In fact, I thought of going back to it - it's a great phone and you're right about the Supra interface.

Michael, Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you like the site.

Those of you considering the Blackberry Storm might want to read David Pogue's review in the New York Times. You can find it here...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/27/technology/personaltech/27pogue.html

To say he was disappointed is an understatement.

Yvonne, the carrier change charges are crazy - especially if you have family members on your plan and want to change them as well.  Unless the timing is right, it's not worth it!  Thanks for the comment.

Tim, Thanks for the link - I just read his article - very helpful and I'm glad I didn't jump into making the investment before researching.  Although I like the touch screen of the iPhone, I do think having the actual keys is my preference.  I had a Treo previously and loved having actual keys to touch.  Looks like the Blackberry Bold is my next phone...

Good link.  You know, these phones and all their features are like paint.  If there were not so many colors, it would be much easier to choose!  Oh well - technology!  Thanks for the link.

You're right Bruce & Mary!  And what makes it worse is that each carrier has different phones, so you have to change providers if you want a specific phone.  Ugh!  Thanks for the comment :)

This is a great resource.  It is very difficult to compare phones.  I am hoping to be able to upgrad my phone next spring -- depending on the real estate market.  Let us know how your phone works out.

John:  Good luck wth your choice.  I really wanted the Storm, but phonescoop helped me decide that the Bold was probably the better phone for me - and I don't have to change carriers.  Also, I have read a few reviews about the Storm and maybe it needs to get a few 'glitches' out...  Thanks for the comment!

Hi Joan, I'll post something after Santa brings me the Bold (hopefully).  The number of phones on the market is crazy!  I'm glad you like the site.  It really helps compare them side-by-side.
