Dog Limit Laws, Still An Issue

Woman and PuppyI just got an e-mail from Kelly Holleran at the Charleston Daily Mail.  She's written her article on the local dog limit laws, and as promised shared a link with me.

Here it is, please read: Cities' Dog Limit Law Surprises Residents.

Thank you, Kelly, for writing this and sharing it with us.

Kelly saw my blog and called to tell me she enjoyed it.  (Thank you!)  She said she read one of my posts and thought there was a story there.  Before she could even say it, I knew which one she meant

That's the only post I've ever written when I was angry, something the blogging books will tell you not to do.  I disagree, go on and write angry as long as you're going to stand behind what you say.  I still mean what I said.  I think you can't judge a pet owner by the number of their pets.  It's about the care they receive.

And again, I am not within the city limits of Hurricane and have only two dogs, this law does not apply to me at all.  It's probably wrong of me to get worked up about it.  Just can't help myself!  :o)

(One correction for the story, I am NOT a lifelong resident of Hurricane.  I have lived in North Carolina and I am not in Hurricane now.  I am merely a Realtor who works in Hurricane.  That has nothing to do with the story but I thought I should say it.)

I'm glad this issue has not gone away, and I want to thank Kelly again for keeping the talk going.

I want to know how YOU feel about dog limit laws.  Please vote in my poll if you haven't already done so.  I don't care if you're in Hurricane or not, as an opinion poll that just doesn't matter.  This is an informal poll to see what the general feeling is about dog limit laws.

Athens-Clarke County, Georgia tried to pass a similar law a few years ago, and that was the only time I became truly political!  These types of laws are absurd!  I have 4 dogs in my home now, they don't bark, stay indoors much of the time or are outside playing in a 0.5 acre chain linked fence area and bother no one.  All of our dogs are rescued dogs and have greatly enriched our lives.  Arbitrarily set rules like these help no one, instead of limits being set, enforce the laws in effect that promote proper ownership responsibility.

We're planning to move to your area in May.  We're looking at houses now.  I'm so glad someone brought your blog and the Charleston Daily Mail article to my attention.  I've already gone back to my "saved" list of houses and eliminated the ones in Hurricane and Charleston because of this law.  We had no idea there was a law limiting the number of dogs you can own in these cities.  You can bet WE won't be looking at these cities for our home considering that we have 3 dogs.  Thanks for the heads up.
