Social Networks are going online now at a rate of over 10 per day.

Established networks like Active Rain,  with a proven track record and purpose,  have demonstrated a loyal following.   Many new social networks, like Pownce,  have already bit the dust.

We launched our Social Network a few weeks ago for Myrtle Beach, SC.  Since that time we have witnessed several new sites being launched.

While universal passwords are coming to help,  it is obvious that a few good national and local social networks will thrive and many other ill conceived concepts will bite the dust in this new shakeout.

What's your opinion?   What is the future for Social Networking?  Is it a good place to get your name viral?

I am relatively new to AR and all social networking, but it sure seems to be the next big thing.  I am not sure if I am doing the right things however to make it worth my time, and to see the payoff business wise.  I will need to educate myself some more!

For myself I use most of the networking to promote my site on google to pick up buyers leads....and it's paying off.  For the top terms in my area:  Logan Utah Real Estate  I am now up in the top 10 of google and have a couple more pages of my site on the 2nd page.  That's after about 4-5 months of blogging consistently with quality links and terms going back to my site.   I really only focus on the large established networking sites because thats' what Google seems to like....

I think some will flourish -- and some will fall by the way side.  I think AR is going to be here for a long tme.

I think it has a place but the site has to be well thought out and serve a benefit and a purpose to the consumers that it serves

I'm not sure of the business benefits either. I can't say that anything has come out of AR in the way of business, per say. BUT I have gotten lots of great information and lots of fun with it. I think it is here to stay because of those two reasons alone.

I don't know its all business and I am on here and other social networking for business only......... I hate to blog and I hate playing with it all....but then I hated when we moved from MLS books to computers but now I don't know what I would do if I had to look at a book again......

Technology is a necessary evil I think......its human to error but takes a computer to really screw things up....

I think it is a combination of social networking via computer and social networking the old fashioned way-via face to face opportunity at community events, open houses, caravans, lunches, etc that gets the job done. Nothing replaces a hand-shake and a smile. Or even better yet, a thank you note to someone for something they did at a networking event. That said, I am planning to up my blogging activity to see what the future reward might be.

Thanks for the comments to date.  I agree,  I am on social networking continually and Active Rain is among the best Social Networks for what it does.   David
