Snow Storm Hits Rochester, NY But They Want To See The House Anyway

By
Real Estate Agent with Hunt Real Estate- Columbus Division

They warned us it was coming.  Many people went to the stores and stocked up on food.  Those who waited until the last minute to buy Christmas gifts might need to wait a little longer.  Then it began.  The snow started in the morning, and kept right on falling all day long.  Schools closed early.  Evening events were canceled.  The plow crews had a tough time keeping up.  I went and checked on one of my vacant listings, and decided to wait to check on a different one.  I was concerned about going over the icy 104 bridge.

It's hard to serve clients from a ditch.  I knew the crews would work all night to get them cleared.  I figured I'd wait till morning.  This weather is not new to us.  It doesn't bring our city to a complete halt.  We are prepared.  We got about 12 inches.  We've had more.  We're Rochesterians.  We can handle anything.  It actually looks really pretty.  My daughter had mentioned recently that she'd like more snow to build a fort.  She got her wish.

Then the call came this morning.  Another Realtor wanted to show my listing.  Uh oh.  I wondered if the driveway had been plowed.  If it had, was it buried again?  Would they be able to get up the driveway? I ventured out to go check. On the side of the road this is what I saw.  Two for sale signs on posts.  The snow from the plows going by did a little damage.  One sign was completely gone, and buried.  Only the post was left standing.  The other one was hanging by a thread.  I didn't have my regular camera with me, so these pictures were taken from my cell phone.  I apologize for the lack of quality.

I made it to the house.  I shoveled the 12 inches off the walkway up to the front door.  The winds had knocked the Christmas wreath off the front door.  I put it back on.  The driveway was plowed.  I called the other agent to let her know she could show it, and that it was all clear.  But I mentioned she might want to hurry up, another storm is coming tomorrow.

Looks like the Nothnagle sign held up to the test slightly better than the HRE sign, it's like the old glad bag "stress test"...wonder who their sign vendor is...Thanks for venturing out and posting these pics, they make me wish that I was back up there.

Kevin- Both signs are only a couple doors down from each other, and they were both Nothnagle signs.  The reason I know that is because I drive by them often.  It's nice to hear from someone who actually misses the snow.  My aunt lives in your hometown of Buffalo.  I'm not sure how many inches they got.  I saw on your profile that you enjoy boating.  I've owned three boats myself.  I love being out on the water.  I'm looking forward to Spring.

Tara- That's impressive.  Does your broker travel?

Both NOTHNAGLE? Well, now you've got some ammo for when it expires...Our Signs Can Stand The Test of Winter..lol.  I started as an agent w/Hunt Commercial in 1999. Yes, I must say I do enjoy the snow, my sister said they had about a foot but I watched the Sabres game and the arena was at 90% capacity. We had our boat in Buffalo the past few years, I bought it up there and traveled alot for work. Now I don't travel and am married so we brought the boat down to the Chesapeake over the summer. I've never been on the water in Rocha-cha but used to live on the water in Olcott; no more boat?

Kevin- actually this past summer,I was using a boat I used to own, because the owner was too busy traveling to use it.  I didn't go out as much as I would have liked to because I was busy working.  I do plan on getting another one someday.

I drove by those posts today, and both signs are now gone.

Tim/Pam- You don't know how we do it?  Well  guess somehow we just manage.  The roads were pretty clear today thanks to the hard work of the snow plowers that were probably out all night.  I prefer warm weather too.

Bob/Carolin- I don't think the general public realizes the lengths
we go to at times, but when I put a sold sign up, it makes it worthwhile.  Happy holidays to both of you also.
