A free online tag cloud generator from Jonathan Feinberg at wordle.net was all kinds of fun for me today where I saved some images below as screen-shots to share but the site also provides “code” for your results to copy & paste into your website or blog.

Wordle can create typical tag clouds but what sets wordle apart is the ability to select your own words or text, change color schemes, fonts and various other design options. You’ll need java enabled but beyond that I found the application to be pretty simple to “get”.

Tip: Use the “randomize” button to automatically reorder and redesign your word cloud.

A theme of words is one way to personalize a blog post, greeting card, flyer or other marketing piece. You could:

Design an image with names of streets in a town, community landmarks, local attractions or neighborhoods to represent your service area or use words to promote a listing by describing its’ features and highlights. Use an image of blog or network sites on the www.

Decorate a newsletter or website with an image showing your name, company, website, specialties and contact info to help illustrate the character of your business.

Embellish a thank you note or open house invitation with an image illustrating what, where, when –don’t forget to include your name, business, email and contact info.

Thanks, Teresa, for your kind words.  I played around with it again this morning and for the life of me, it won't let me enter a phone #.  The example you did for Marti looks awesome and I love where the phone # landed in the word cloud.  Is there something unique that you did to add it?

Kathy

2:31pm • #18

Hi Kathy - first make sure you have the numbers key locked on your keyboard - I've inadvertently "unlocked" mine without realizing...

If you are typing words into the text block as long as you have a . or a - between the #'s it should keep them together -

Once you hit go and it gives you an image screen - you can keep choosing the randomize" button to automatically reorder until it gives you something you want or use the toolbar just above the image to make changes to the way the words are organized - the drop down list will give several options such as "half and half" or "mostly vertical" which also will re-arrange the words. If you have trouble let me know and I can get more specific if I go to the site again but

the main thing is to make sure your # lock key on your pc keyboard is on...hope it is that simple - do let me know

Teresa - One tip that I wanted to share with everyone about Wordle is that you can put your ActiveRain blog URL in the "Create" section and it will automatically create a word cloud using all your tags, etc.

Here's one I did using that technique:

Hi Jim, nice colors & word selection on your wordle!

I've used the images to spice up posts - a few examples:
New Hockey/Entertainment Center & Home Show. posts -

how about on your website or blog? maybe a link to a page on your site (see below) I can also imagine this wordle of yours on a thank you card, postcard, newsletter or flyer....like it Jim!

Here it is linked to your AR blog...
and might be good linked to an "about" or " testimonial" page
