Granite Counters - Do you know anyone who will repair/fix existing countertops in Maryland?

As many of you know, I had to live with the most unpleasant experience several months ago of finding out that my granite counters that were initially installed in my home has a crack in them and had to be replaced.  After learning about this I immediately contacted my builder and they had to eventually wind up replacing all of the counters in the kitchen.  The fortunate thing was that I was able to salvage all of the granite that was not damaged which was 99.99% of it and kept it in my basement until I was ready to finish it.  The unfortunate part was that when the installed the new counter tops, instead of having them pre-cut to fit my cook top and sink, they did it inside of my home in my kitchen with tons of dirt and dust that had to be cleaned up (AND I AM STILL FINDING IT IN SOME OF MY CABINETS)!  So for all of my pain and suffering at least I got to keep my old counter tops.

However, I need to find a GRANITE COMPANY in the MARYLAND AREA that is willing to come by and tell me what I can do with what I have and how much of it is actually salvageable (In my opinion 95% of it can be saved).  I want to use it for a wet bar down there.

DO ANY OF MY FELLOW AR COLLEAGUES HAVE ANYONE THAT THEY WOULD RECOMMEND THAT I CONTACT IN THE MARYLAND AREA?  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I tried GOOGLE YESTERDAY!  I don't want to pay someone for their ad in the Yellow Pages, but I may have to resort to that, LOL...

Anyone who works with granite should be able to do it. But it is a speciality, using special saws and granite epoxy, so only use someone who knows what they are doing.

I found one company that said they will pick them up and take them to their place to use their diamond blade in Catonsville, but I don't have a quote yet?  Apparently it works best if you use a diamond blade cutter with WATER!

My friend used to own a granite quarry in Gettysburg, PA.  He knows your area as he had a boat in Annapolis, Maryland.  717-495-6811 Jerry Justice. He said there is a product called Akemi - it is a type of  epoxy which comes in every color imaginable.  It can be purchased through a company called - Granite City Tool Company.  He said you could google their web site. If you need any more advice you can call him at the number above during regular business hours.

Good luck, I used to live in Gettysburg, worked in Maryland most of my life and now enjoy Sunny South Florida.

Michael,

Not true, they can cut the granite on site if they OWN and know how to PROPERLY OPERATE THEIR OWN TOOLS.  Yes, they do need water. I just watched it done at one of my customer's properties last week.  They were installing new granite.

As I said above, there is my friends contact info and he told me he would help you if you needed it.  He is the granite king of PA and MD, now semi-retired at the ripe old age of 48.

So, whatever you need to know, give him a call or do what he directed me to tell you as above.

We have lots of granite installed in FL...you need a professional.  Perhaps Jerry (as above) can direct you in the right direction.

KAREN THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  I will definitely be calling him probably tomorrow at some point (Monday)!  Is he a STEELERS FAN?  Just wondering, LOL!  Maybe I should call him before we play each other...

Not a real person
San Diego, CA

I checked with all my San Diego contacts, and all of them are willing to make a trip to Baltimore as long as you pay the travel fee, hotel fee, and a rental car, not to mention their work fees. I just thought I'd throw that in for you in case it's an option. Oh, they did say that they would need to come in the late spring or summer to make sure that none of that white stuff was on the ground -- LOL.
