Dancing Means Leading AND Following

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

DanceIn life we are all partners to one extent or another. Professional-client, husband-wife, parent-child, and leader-follower. With all the various roles it does come down to giving and receiving. We never truly are ONLY one or the other.

Sometimes we take the lead, other times we let others lead us. An unbalanced relationship of any kind would have us stuck in one or the other too much of the time. Excessive givers could be considered martyrs or in terms of unrespected givers, doormats. Excessive receivers would be considered selfish or self-centered and arrogant.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
 The dance takes surrender, willingness,
 and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

Be good at the dance of life. Feel the rhythm and go with the flow. Afterall it is sweet music they are playing and it is YOUR song. And when called to sit it out or dance, DANCE!

Dance

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

You made me think about dancing with my husband, Gary, and on reflection, I have discovered a startling fact. I have never danced with my husband! Well, unless you count that dancing-at-your-seat-thing one does at a concert. We don't go to balls, and we certainly don't hang out at bars, nobody we know is getting married, and we're celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this year never having had danced together. I find this odd, don't you?

Gary this is so true. I was told by my Grandfather, that a couple who dance very well together will live a very happy life together. The first time he saw my wife and I dance...he told me, "Don't let this one get away!" He also told me that a couple that dances like they are on a cloud, will Have a love life that is very harmonious! Grandpa was a smart man!!!

Gary, Even your titles are wonderful.  This life certainly is a dance and staying in sync sure helps you get through it.  My favorite saying--Go with the Flow works well for so many of us.  Beautiful, thank you!

Gary—This is one of my favorite posts as it reveals some essential wisdom to everyone. To me life is a dance I enjoy.  The following is a quote (anon.) I've embraced this year, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to dance in the rain." May you and all your partners know when to lead and when to follow!

Gary!  I love dancing. I just looove that song. It's so inspirational, as YOU are.  I also love romantic movies :) When I saw the movie "The Notebook", he asked her to dance right on the street, no music playing. I was taken by that scene. Sometimes not only do we need to know when to follow and to lead, but also we gotta feel the music that is coming from inside of us.  Thank you again, Gary. I just can't thank you enough!

This advice would have been very useful 24 years ago!  Now you tell me!!  I have been standing in a wind tunnel bracing myself, when if I would have gone with the flow, we might be gliding along?

Dorie: Glad you liked this one and can pass it along to share.

Hi Susan: Glad you liked that song. A wind tunnel bracing yourself? You are quite the descriptive one. Going with the flow is always a good bet. Better late than never. Like I say, I see this future next life for you with the dancing on the cloud. Hope I am around to see it. I'm not planning on going anywhere God willing.

Retired and loving life

Hi Gary-I love this particular post partly because of the words in it, the other part because of the animated dancers. You have been on such a blogging run and have had such a oxygenated brain that one has a hard time keeping up with all the magic and wonder of all these beautiful and marvelous posts.

I think you should win a award or get paid the big bucks for all your hard work and dedication to providing us with all of with the best wisdom, inspiration and even a little bit of humor for good measure. I love all sides of your creativity. You are amulti-talented fellow.

Thank you for sharing that with all of us. I love that song "I hope you dance", but there is 2 songs that come to mind when I see that picture and that would be these.  I love the second one even though it was my wedding song. Check out the pics in the first one. Pretty cool isn't it. <smile>
