Quick story: Daughter ran her phone to the phone store b/c it wasn't keeping a charge. Nice guy at the store 'gave' her a new battery and said, this should do it" Daughter was thrilled b/c the phone is not under warranty and she assumed she was 'out of luck'- Happy Day, Happy Daughter!
- Next day, same daughter, same phone, new battery doesn't keep a charge either. Daughter returns to the phone store. Different attendant takes the phone apart, replies you are not under warranty, it will be 200 dollars for a new phone. Un-happy Day, Un-happy Daughter.
- That evening, daughter plugs in the phone to try charge while searching the internet for suggestions to 'her phone' problem. Finds customer reports that are similar, one suggesting she 'check' the charger. Daughter ran to Big Box Store that is open 24/7 and purchased a $10 charger---- it WORKS!! Happy Evening, Happy Daughter!
- Next morning- happy daughter plans to call the phone store and 'complain' that the attendant did not offer to check out her charger before blaming the problem on the phone. (She claims she had it with her and showed the gal how it didn't fit well). Her reasoning is the attendant was only after the $200 sale of a new phone, not customer service which would have resulted in a smaller sale of a charger.
- My suggestion is to write a letter, 'thanking' the store for the service it did provide, the national name recognition it has (evident by the google search that turned up the suggestion for the correct fix) and the short store hours which allowed for her to purchase from a discount store and save an additional little bit of money.
No one is a mind reader, in defense of the attendant, she might not have know to ask to check the charger, in defense of my daughter- there is NO defense, she knows she should have asked for a different charger or at least a different clerk.
How do we apply this story to everyday life? 1: Ask questions- 2: Find resources that produce solutions- 3: ask your mommy when you need help. (I would have given her the number of 'my guy' at the store.)
