Top Ten TV Sitcoms (according to me)

I have always been a TV junkie.  Except for a few years where I was to busy traveling and exploring the world, TV has always been a staple in my life.  Situation Comedy or Sitcoms as they are known have always been one of my favorite things to watch.

Below is a list of my top 10 favorite sitcoms of all time.  Note:  I am a little bias on some of these as I grew up watching them.  There are some older shows that may have been great but was not a part of my TV watching experience as a kid.

10.  Good Times - loved JJ and the gang.  My favorite character was the dad.  "Dynomite!"

9.  Fraiser - great spin off show from Cheers.  Kelsey Grammer is a funny man but the brother Niles and their father were great supporting characters.

8.  Family Ties - gotta love Michael J. Fox and the character he played.

7.  Happy Days - who didn't love the "Fonz," and the gang who hung out at Al's dinner?  "Heeeeyyyyy!"

6.  All in the Family - one of the funniest opening songs of a sitcom ever.  Archie Bunker is a TV character legend.  "Archie" (in my best Edith Bunker voice)

5.  The Simpsons - the longest running sitcom in history.  I love the character of Homer Simpson.  "D'OH!"

4.  Cheers - great to tune into see the gang where everybody knows your name.  I love watching this in syndication.  Still funny as ever.  "Norm!"

3.  The Cosby Show - Bill Cosby is a comic genius.  I always felt like I was part of their family.

2.  Friends - I loved it while it was on but my wife and I love it even more now that we have the DVDs.  We watch the DVDs (I listen while driving) on long road trips on our laptop.  "How you doing?"

1.  Seinfeld - I know it is cliche to say this is my favorite, but I was saying before it was the cool thing to say back in 92 and 93.  I love the whole cast.  Brilliant show about nothing.  "A George divided against itself cannot stand!"

Hi Michael,

I am a tv addict nowadays but never watched when I was a kid. My two cents - the list can't be complete without The Office.  Old favorites - I guess I did catch some tv as a kid even if on rerun - Leave It to Beaver, I Love Lucy, The Partridge Family, and The Brady Bunch.  Then from cable I would add Californication (new but awesome), Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Lucky which starred John Corbett (of Northern Exposure & Sex and the City) and lasted just one season I think.

I think everybody's list would depend on when it was that they watched a whole lotta tv.

What about The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family, and Curb your Enthusiam.  I see Elizabeth agrees.

Elizabeth - I tried to get into the office but it just doesn't work for me.  I think I've known to many managers like the main character that annoy me.

Cindy - watched the brady bunch in syndication...it would be in my top 25.  I never could get into curb your enthusiasm.  On the other hand I do like other HBO sitcoms like Entourage (not sure if that is technically a sitcom).

Chris & Karen - I like Raymond..but not love...that's a little strong.   I'd put him in my top 15.

Love them all.  Except All in the Family, never really watched that one.

For me Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best commedy show ever.  Easy to see that Larry David was the creative genius behind Seinfeld.  When you watch Seinfeld notice that the best were written by Larry David.
