RSPS Designation with one time fee - 02/05/09
Today after a second day of class and a test I completed the the second of two core courses for the RSPS (Resort Second-home Property Specialist) designation.
The first core course: NAR Resort & Second Home Markets Course I completed in 2008. Today I completed the RLI Tax-Deferred (1031) Exchange Course with Susan Hayden of Investment Properties Exchange Services, Inc. in Raleigh, NC. I've already met the additional elective requirements so I am all set and filling out my application now.
It is nice to complete a designation and know that you after all the education classes, tests and fees there won't be any recurring fees every year just to use the letters on your cards, websites and marketing materials.
I would like to see more designations following this path of one time fees only. Once you've given your time, financial investment, completed the learning, the tests, the electives and performance requirements it only seems fair that you can market yourself as having achieved the recognition. Yet, many designations deny you that privilege over time not because you underperformed or misbehaved in any way, but rather because you fail to continue the annual payments.
Can you imagine our colleges and universities prohibiting us from using our degrees in our business and marketing materials simply because we fail to pay them annual fees?
Thank you RSPS for this one time fee approach. I like it. I look forward to seeing more!
