McKinney continues program to recognize historic homes
Historic Preservation Advisory Board seeks nominations for calendar
The City of McKinney Historic Preservation Advisory Board (HPAB) is once again seeking nominations for revitalized historic houses as part of the Preserve Historic McKinney-Home Recognition Program.
The program recognizes property owners who have made significant improvements to their homes and places photos of chosen homes in a monthly calendar. Nominations must be received by Feb. 28.
The HPAB hopes to pick 14 homes to recognize in the annual super-sized calendar, with a different recognized home featured every month for 14 months. Residential properties located in the Historic Neighborhood Improvement Zone are eligible for consideration.
"The importance of McKinney's 160 year history is apparent in our vibrant historic district. Many home owners have renovated their homes and revitalized our historic residential community," said Historic Preservation Officer Guy Giersch. "We hope to recognize the most significantly improved historic properties through this program."
The Home Recognition Program complements the work of the city to preserve its historical buildings by recognizing the efforts of individual property owners and encouraging future reinvestment in the historic residential community.
In addition to the calendar, the city administers two economic incentive programs encouraging historic preservation and revitalization.
