Thursday's Early Thoughts and Ideas

Real Estate Agent with Aubrey and Associates Realty

Yesterday afternoon I had what I am terming a moment of an epiphany.  I spent a lot of time cleaning off my desk in my home office.  I should state here that I keep a very tidy desk at the Real Estate Office, but my desk at home can get a little messy with files, flyers, post it notes, and other notes.  I should also note that with my home desk, I have help messing it up, at the office the mess is generally mine and mine only.

I am not saying that I am not responsible for the vast majority of the mess on my home desk, just that I do have help when it comes to adding to the mess.  It was a good thing to get down and look to make sure that I was keeping only necessary things and throwing out the useless stuff.  I was amazed as I glanced at notes that I had made from posts here.  There were some posts that had so inspired me, that I had just printed the post rather than make notes of it.

I am still a long ways away from being a paperless agent.  We do the best that we can, and we do try to recycle everything that we can, but there is still paper generated.  There were flyers that I had printed off to put on doors as we farmed neighborhoods, newsletters, some that were extra, and some that had come back by returned mail.  I didn't make any great discoveries that would shake up the world as we know it, but it was a good thing to just clean out all the junk, and start anew.

I know that I wasn't really happy about doing it at the time, but now that it's over, I am glad that it's done.  I wonder now if we shouldn't do something like this every so often with our lives; clean out all of the junk and be left with a new cleaned up area ready to live.  Just a thought during one of the many chores that I really don't like to do.  Make it a great Week!

Tom and Darcy - I'm not sure who got stuck with that job, but I feel your pain.  My desk gets cleaned every couple of months and then gradually returns to it's "normal" messy state!  Then, after a few reminders from my wife, I wait a few more weeks and then clean it again.  :-)

I think you're right - we need to apply that to at least part of our lives and review what we have, what needs to be kept, and what could be either trashed or given to someone who would use it.

Thanks for getting the wheels turning.

My partner (and fiance) is the same way. He is always up in his head so when an idea comes to him he scratches it down on a piece of paper. When I go to his office I am in a sea of misc papers and notes.

I am a neat freak and this will just not do. It is VERY good to clean up and get rid of waste. Not only for a nice place to work without going crazy over the mess around you but also to clear your mind.

Thanks for sharing, Nicole Weidauer

Thanks for the comments.  I know that I should stay on top of it, but I get lazy.

For me a cluttered work space = a cluttered head so if I keep I'm keeping it clean it usually means I'm keeping productive.

I try to do things daily so that I never have to do too much at any one time. Just like home maintenance, preventive maintenance is better than waiting until the disaster happens.

My two desks are just the opposite of yours. At home, it's clean. At the office, there seem to be a lot of people helping me make a mess out of it.

I also want to know what kind of help you have at home -- LOL. I have Zoey the Cool Cat, but she likes the other desk better because it gets more sunshine.

Zoey the Cool Cat enjoying the sunshine. Not my desk!
