social media: Does your LinkedIn Profile Suck? Here's a Video if it does! - 09/27/10 07:15 AM
LinkedIn is an essential part of your total online Social Media Marketing Campaign.  So why is it that most people sign up for LinkedIn, connect with a few present or past co-workers, and then never log in again?
My guess is that most people are unaware of the networking possibilities (via groups and discussions) and cool functionality on LinkedIn.
If you want to start using LinkedIn for the full benefit of your Real Estate Business, check out this video:

social media: Ever wonder what a BarCamp Was? Wonder no further...(Video) - 04/28/10 03:13 AM
If you've ever been interested in attending a BarCamp conference, this video attempts to capture the essence of what a BarCamp is all about.  Essentially, it is an UNconference driven by the interests of the participants.  If you are wondering what THAT is like, watch the video.  They are generally free, and draw very respected speakers from all over the US.
The event in the video was BarCampCharlotte III.  Note that there are "Bar Camps" and there are "Real Estate BarCamps".  This one was the more general BarCamp where people with technical and artistic backgrounds converged to share ideas, network, and … (2 comments)

social media: What is the Sales Technique for This Decade? - 03/02/10 01:13 AM
If you want the biggest piece of the pie, stop hard selling! The word of the decade is TRUST. Generation Y will be the buyers/sellers of more homes in the next 10 years than any other age group, and they will NOT work with someone they do not trust. Good organizations will be training agents how to build trust, and doing it on Gen Y's home turf - read that - technology - read that - social networks. I agree that referrals will still be 80+ % of most experienced agents closed sales volume, but if you want a chunk of … (9 comments)

social media: My 100th Blog Post on Activerain - 01/01/10 07:56 AM
As we turn the page and enter a New Year and decade, I can't help to want to take a moment to reflect on the past.  That combined with the fact that this is my 100th blog post on ActiveRain - I'm feeling a little nostalgic and (at the same time) proud for sticking to my commitment to blogging.
My experience here on ActiveRain has been nothing short of fantastic.  The wonderful people I've met (in real life, even), the things I've learned from others, and who can forget the SEO benefit AR has provided my primary website.  It's all been … (16 comments)

social media: The SECRET To Managing Social Media - Enough Excuses! - 11/16/09 03:32 AM
I see it again, and again, and AGAIN!  Agents confused by social media and confused by how to manage the time necessary for social media.  They have every excuse in the book NOT to do social media and they want a magic silver bullet to do it for them.
First, WHY Social Media?

If you have any doubts about WHY you should be on Social Networks as a Realtor, consider this. NAR says that baby boomers have (on average) one home buying cycle left. Generation X has (on average) 6 buying cycles left. Generation Y has (on average) 7 buying cycles left.
Now consider … (41 comments)

social media: Twitter is Stupid, I don't have the time for Twitter! - 10/26/09 03:51 AM
That is a direct quote from a Realtor I met on Friday.
When I asked him how much time he spent on Twitter before making that generalization he told me that he signed up, typed in what he was doing, and no one ever responded and he NEVER got any leads from Twitter.  So I guess it must be true!
The reality is that Social Networking (including Twitter) is the best tool to come along for Realtors since the Website.  Do you remember the agents who said, "I don't need a website, this Internet thing won't last"!  When those agents snubbed … (132 comments)

social media: Twitter Made Easy for Business (Part 3 of 3 - 'Tweeting') - 10/13/09 01:16 AM
If you’ve been hesitant to sign up with Twitter, or signed up with Twitter and don’t have a clue what to do next, this video series is for you.
If you are afraid of embracing Social Media because it is too technical for you, don’t worry, my video series is made with you in mind. I have distilled all the Technology down to lay-person terms and tested it on some folks who are really scared of the Social Media revolution, and now they are using Twitter!
If you have not seen Part 1 on Listening, watch it first. It can be … (14 comments)

social media: How in the Heck do you use Twitter for Business? - 10/02/09 07:57 AM
Twitter!  It's everywhere!  Ever since Oprah talked about it, you can't read the paper, go to a website, or even watch your evening news without being invited to follow them on Twitter.  So what's the big deal, and why are so many businesses embracing Twitter?
The first thing you need to know:  There is a right way and a wrong way to use Twitter, especially if you are using it to promote a business.
Every day, I'm out there talking to Real Estate Agents who can't wrap their minds around Twitter.  "No one cares that I just ate dinner", they say.  … (23 comments)

social media: Favorite Movie Quotes on Twitter, Facebook, Social Media - 09/23/09 02:28 AM
What would some of our favorite characters from 20 ish years ago say about social media?

Mr T on Twitter:  "You need to be interesting for me to folla you,  FOOL"

Fletch - "Your texting bill, Senior" ....  "One thousand dollars?" ...... "Is ok senior, I will put it on the Underhill's bill"

social media: Sorry for ignoring your Facebook friend request - 07/28/09 01:53 AM
At every technology conference I've been to in the last year, I'm told that I HAVE to be on Facebook to promote my business and that I NEED to be friending every prospect in the world to have them follow me.
I'm not WRONG, I just have a different opinion of the mainstream.  Facebook has been such a personally wonderful experience for me.  I got on to re-connect with old friends.  I was very shy about it for the first year, not posting my picture and not really ever updating it.  But after losing my brother and my step dad last … (10 comments)

social media: The iPhone - The Gateway to Twitter, Facebook and other Social Networking Sites - 07/26/09 03:00 PM
At this point, the vote is unanimous.  If you are in the business of prospecting for new clients, you need to be on social networking sites.  Having a small business myself, I have been tuned into sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others.  The complaint I hear from more business professionals than any other is, "I don't have time for all that social networking stuff".  Well the pros all agree, you need to make time.  But how?
I want to share my solution.  Like thousands of other busy professionals, I signed up for Twitter last year and did nothing with … (4 comments)

social media: What's so "Social" about LinkedIn? - Now I Get it! - 07/24/09 03:33 AM
Ok, so as a Realtor, it's getting drummed into your head over and over .... "You need to be on SOCIAL networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn".  So, I think Facebook is the easiest to conquer.  Twitter made sense to me after I got Tweetdeck, and now I am trying to figure out LinkedIn.
I have been on LinkedIn for years.  I added my old boss and a bunch of people from my pre Real Estate and Video days, and ....... [crickets chirping] .....  [Yawn] ........   Every now and then I would get an email telling me that so in … (11 comments)
