cape cod: Falmouth Artists Guild Raises Funds For An Elevator - 07/17/10 06:20 AM
On Thursday evening my wife and I attended the Falmouth Artists Guild fundraiser. We were there with other agents and friends from Robert Paul Properties. There was good food, dancing, music was provided by Four Guys In Tuxes, and there was a lot of art and goodies to bid on at the auction. We had a very nice evening.
One of the activities was an open call for donations toward the installation of an elevator at the new Falmouth Artists Guildbuilding on Gifford and Dillingham. The guild web site begins with, "The Falmouth Artists Guild is dedicated to the visual arts, providing … (1 comments)

cape cod: The Patriot! (Wordless Wednesday) - 07/14/10 10:02 AM

You can't get much more red white and blue that this patriot! He went all out on July 4th. The food was great, the weather was clear and bright, and the company was excellent! All over the United States people were being patriotic, but this kid is completely wrapped up in it! God Bless America!

cape cod: Falmouth Street Fair 2010 - 07/14/10 09:23 AM
The Falmouth Street Fair was held today. Between showings and meetings I snapped a few pics. The weather kept many visitors away, but there was still a steady throng of shoppers and eaters.
The pictures below are outside the Robert Paul Properties Falmouth Office, looking up Main Street east toward the harbor, and looking southeast across the library lawn and Main Street. A drizzle has started now at 4:15pm so many of the shoppers are starting to head to their cars and home.
Just one more fun thing to do on the Cape when you come visit!

cape cod: Falmouth High School Sailing Team Fundraiser! Pizza For Boats, Tomorrow! - 07/06/10 05:08 AM
Here is a note I received from the Falmouth Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS). If you or someone you know loves sailing, buy a pizza tomorrow! Print and present the coupon below to help the Falmouth Clipper Sailing Team!
The request and information I received is as follows:
Hi friends! Falmouth High School has a good sailing team! One problem: It is the only team in the league that does not own their own boats. Despite using rental boats that are in poor condition, they still came in 2nd in their division this year!  The 420 boats are expensive, and they have taken on a big, … (0 comments)

cape cod: Craving Chocolate At Work? Try A Coffee Mug Cake! - 05/26/10 01:06 AM
How about a chocolate cake instead of a coffee break?! This little recipe can make a chocolate lover's day. Some offices offer cappuccino and bottled water, now the fancy ones can let them eat cake! For real!
(Also, if you print the recipe and place it in a mug that has your logo, it could be part of a closing gift basket.)
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 T. flour 4 T. sugar 2 T. cocoa 1 egg 3 T. milk 3 T. oil (or try real butter...worked very well) 3 T. chocolate chips (optional) Small splash of vanilla extract 1 large coffee … (6 comments)

cape cod: Falmouth After Prom Gus Canty Pictures! 2010 - 05/23/10 07:29 AM
Each year for the last 16 years, Falmouth resident Sandy Cuny and many volunteers and contributors have produced an all night party for juniors and seniors at Falmouth High School. The post-prom celebration is an all-night safe haven for teens in Falmouth where they can eat, create, play games and enjoy entertainment at no cost.
All the decorations, food, games, and entertainment are provided by local businesses and individuals. For three days, teams of parents decorate the inside of the Gus Canty Community Center in a theme that is picked at the annual Celebrations meeting. This year they chose "Holidays/Festivals" as their theme. There was … (4 comments)

The sun is out! The rain from the last two days has cleared up a lot of allergens! The breeze is light! And Main Street in Falmouth MA is starting to buzz with the coming vacationers.
Some people are already here for their early summer fun. Shops in Falmouth are preparing for a great summer! While they are open year round in Falmouth, many businesses rely on summer visitors.
If you are coming to Cape Cod, check here or send us a note and we'll get you an up to date picture! The weekend looks just as bright as today until … (0 comments)

cape cod: No Smoke Inspections In Falmouth MA Until June 16 - 05/20/10 03:12 AM
I just received a call from the Falmouth fire department informing me that smoke detector inspections in the town of Falmouth MA cannot be scheduled until after June 16 because all the slots are full. On the one had this is good news, because that means that there are lots of closing happening! On the other hand it means that offers have to carefully written.
This may be a temporary blitz because of the end of the tax credit. Or, it could be a good sign that the real estate market has at least stabilized in Falmouth. Or, it cold be the … (0 comments)

cape cod: Cool Cape Cod Pictures - 05/13/10 09:58 AM
Many people have heard about Cahoon and the Cape Cod art that has mermaids and ships. But I recently saw the website of newer artist who uses photography. He calls his art Night Photography.
On his web site are his own pictures of Cape Cod with a nocturnal perspective. The colors are brilliant. The subjects are from all over the Cape. And there are interesting photos of other subjects, too.
If you are looking for some interesting art, take a look at Tim Little's photographs. His eye and his creativity are very interesting. I particularly like the one of the lighthouse called … (1 comments)

cape cod: A Home In The Kennedy Compound Is For Sale In Hyannis Port - 05/03/10 10:29 AM
There is a magnificent property within the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port that has recently become available for purchase. This is not a property owned by any of the Kennedys, but it is within the compound area on Marchant Ave.  It is a water front property and across the street from the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's home.
This property has been in the same family for over 50 years. Priced at $13,500,000 and shown to qualified buyers, this is a unique opportunity on Cape Cod.
The property has sweeping views of Nantucket Sound. It has seven bedrooms, and of course, there is … (2 comments)

cape cod: Water Water Everywhere! And Lots of It To Drink! - 04/16/10 06:27 AM
This has been a rainy year on Cape Cod. A report this month from the Cape Cod Commission says that "... Cape water tables are at record highs." It seems that Cape Cod has an unusual abundance of water.
While flooding that has been seen in other parts of the country has not happened here, high water tables do have an impact on real estate. Engineers use the water table levels to plan future projects and to adjust known factors that affect things like septics, sewers, and foundations. The "extra water" causes re-calculation for annual events, or 50 year or 100 year … (3 comments)

cape cod: Tax Credit ALERT! The Deadline is Approaching! - 03/27/10 01:21 AM
The first time buyers tax credit is still available. This is an $8,000 tax credit that is available for home buyers who have a home under agreement before April 30, 2010. The closing needs to take place before the end of June.  There is still time to BUY A HOME!
Buyers who are "Moving Up" are included. And buyers who are downsizing may take advantage of the credit also.
There is also a provision for people selling their home who are not first time buyers. A $6,500 tax credit that is available for those who have a fully executed Offer to … (4 comments)

cape cod: For the first time in 30 years.... - 03/01/10 11:06 PM
Oh My Goodness! Last night the Falmouth boys' basketball team was firing on all cylinders, and they had a nitro conversion kit that kicked in after the first basket!
The link above goes to the Cape Cod Times article, written by Russ Charpentier, who captures the amazement of all the people who were there. Even the Whitman-Hanson coach said that Falmouth was in a different league last night.
It was fun to watch and got embarrassing at the end as Falmouth, who hasn't been this far in the state playoffs in 30 years! There is no one player who ran the show … (0 comments)

cape cod: Falmouth High School to Play Whitman-Hanson In Semi-Final Basketball - 03/01/10 02:15 AM
Tonight, on a neutral court, Falmouth High School boys' basketball team meets the Whitman-Hanson team at 7pm. W-H has a better win loss record, but Falmouth has beaten teams that W-H opponents have had trouble with. This should be a good game.
Of course I'll be cheering for the Falmouth team to win. W-H has been a Falmouth rival in many playoff games over the years in many different sports. Tonight should be a fast paced, loud, and well played game.
I am looking forward to my nephew Alessio Tranchell and his teammates to work as a team again and move … (0 comments)

cape cod: Come To Cape Cod! - 02/27/10 05:48 AM
The storms in New England have made a mess of many areas. However, Cape Cod is not among them! The Cape is a bustling place! Restaurants are open, shops are open, and even beaches still provide shells and relaxing waves.
There is a lot to do here now, and the crowds aren't here this time of year. Many restaurants have off-season specials. Many hotels are open at discounts. And other shops are glad to have you come in for a visit!
Real estate is selling on the Cape. There are many properties that are priced correctly in good areas. The property … (0 comments)

cape cod: FYI: The 2010 Census Is Recruiting Workers for $16/hour - 02/11/10 02:35 AM
A recruiter for the 2010 US Census stopped in my office today. He said they are looking for a few thousand workers on Cape Cod, nd over a million workers nation wide. The work is up to 40 hours per week worked, and will only be for a few weeks in April and into May.
The hourly pay rate is $16 per hour for between 25 and 40 hours per week worked. Census workers will "follow up" on un-returned census packages. The work schedule is weekends and evenings, because that is when most people will be home. The workers will be … (2 comments)

cape cod: Scott Brown To Thank Voters AND Listen - 01/29/10 12:42 AM
Unfortunately the web site of Scott Brown, Senator, hasn't been updated, but there are numerous reports about his Thank You tour. The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Herald, and other news outlets are reporting that the new Massachusetts Senator will be visiting a few places in the state to thank voters and to keep listening.
Of course I am most happy to write that my town of Falmouth is one of the stops on this thank me/you tour. I have printed a small sign in brown ink that says "Independent Voter". I also stuck the sticker that I got after I … (5 comments)

cape cod: Scott Brown is Coming To Falmouth MA - 01/28/10 12:56 AM
The new Senator from MA is going to be in Falmouth tomorrow. Word on the radio this morning is that he's going to be here at 7 pm. The Falmouth Inn is hosting the event.
Since this seems to be the only place on Cape Cod that he will be visiting, there will probably be lots of people here. I made a sign in brown text that says "Independent Voter." Hopefully the understanding is that it wasn't a party that won or lost the election as much as it was voters trying to be heard.
This should be a busy event … (2 comments)

cape cod: The Scott Heard Round The World - 01/18/10 11:57 PM
Well, it looks like the political machine that controls MA has its hands full. For the first hour of local talk radio on Cape Cod, there was nothing but calls from Scott Brown supporters reporting their vote and the status of the polls in their towns. Neither of the other candidates had one caller.
It appears that the only hope for the MA machine is to somehow slow the counting or hope they were able to acquire enough absentee ballots to affect the outcome. It wouldn't surprise anyone here if there was some shenanigans with the count. Chicago isn't the only … (1 comments)

cape cod: Inexpensive Time Share on Cape Cod! - 01/13/10 08:12 AM
I get requests to sell a time share every so often. I got one this week where the heirs don't want their timeshare, and don't need to sell it for much more than closing costs. If you know someone who likes Cape Cod and who would like an inexpensive time share unit, have them email me.
My fees in this type of transaction are usually "goodwill" or a dinner out, because the transaction will probably be less than $1000. Cape Cod has a lot of fun beaches, resturants, and vacation interests. The time shares here are like the others that can … (0 comments)
