blogging safely: Are the Content and Pictures in Your Blog YOURS?? - 03/11/13 02:44 PM
When I started blogging in 2007, I wanted my blogs to POP.I wanted pictures to accompany the stories and a few times used cartoon pictures that I got off the internet.
I went back through my old posts (back in 2007) to make sure I didn't have any pictures inserted in them ....that WERE NOT mine. I had a few. I deleted them quickly as I was learning about NOT using animations, pictures, cartoons that were not mine. Obviously, it was “stealing” and I did not get permission to use them.
I always write my own content so I never had … (58 comments)

blogging safely: Confessions of a Blogger? - 09/17/12 02:25 AM
What do you consider to be a blogging block?  I have been through the writers block several times and still kicked out some good read. I’ve seriously had a bad block and used the photos I took to create something….beautiful.
There was no stopping these hands from typing!
Now, my life has meaning?   I have balance and no longer need that ActiveRain blog fix. NOT!  After you’ve had the Addiction to ActiveRain there is no turning back.  Even while being busy I am feeling ‘guilty’ about not being on here every single day…..twice or three times a day.
I’ve had to … (22 comments)

blogging safely: The Legacy of Member’s Only Posts - 02/13/11 11:53 AM
A couple of years ago I started writing only PUBLIC posts because I felt there really wasn't any need to do Members Only posts. Why?  I mean, let's get real here. ANYONE CAN SIGN UP and JOIN here at ActiveRain.  Your clients, your neighbors are and your relatives are all reading everything you're writing right after they take just a minute to sign up.
What's the point of writing a Member's Only post when anyone can be a member?
I suppose there are some that feel they are protected when writing nasty, hateful and bigoted posts about politicians or spewing religious … (22 comments)

blogging safely: Spanking Your Way to an Online Legacy - 08/14/10 09:23 AM
ActiveRain has guidelines and when negative people start badgering others there are recourses.....like notifying our staff for advice or else just zap them if they continue; though warned.   We all tell our stories and give examples in hopes of getting a second opinion. It helps if not for just getting out of our own stinking thinking.
On other social networking sites we leave our status or write another post it note to let everyone know what's going on with our business or lives.
Or we just write plain nonsense so we can strike up a conversation with our "friends" or associates … (30 comments)

blogging safely: Tips In Dealing With the Anonymous Cyberstalker - 07/08/09 10:05 AM
We put ourselves out on the internet to market ourselves. We are blogging so that we can give a side of ourselves to the consumer and our peers so they are able to get to ‘know' the person behind the words. There will be many times that we cross paths with another that will leave a lasting impression regardless if they identify themselves or not.
I've been trying to figure out a diplomatic way to write about something that happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I think I have the frame of mind that is needed, so bear with … (83 comments)

blogging safely: Being Mindful of Our Reputation Online - 07/04/09 02:30 PM
A very successful young woman treated all who worked under her like they were less than. She was mean and did not care who she hurt with her demanding haughty demeanor and words.  All the office workers talked behind her back and everyone was in on letting each other know when ‘her highness' arrived in the office.
Long story short, she was in a bind and her whole life was in jeopardy because she was from Canada but violated her Visa. She threatens her assistant that he'll be without a job too if he doesn't marry her so he agreed. During … (46 comments)

blogging safely: Get OFF My Blog! - 06/07/09 06:09 AM
There will always be sour pusses who do not agree with what we write, right? Right. I mentioned the other day how I was getting a anonymous comments by a 'so called Real Estate professional' last week commenting on a 5 month old post. Continuously kept coming back and turning the whole conversation to 'self' and starting to attack my credibility.
Well, I put a stop to it when the 'hiding behind the keyboard' person would not come out of hiding at my invitation. Did you know that there is a box you can uncheck or check for Non Member Comments?

blogging safely: The Benefits of An Agent on Drugs - 05/30/09 08:22 AM

Agent on drugs....  Yeah, the slurred speech, the lethargic glassy looking eyes and the sweat dripping down her face. She tries to hold her composure through the last two showing appointments of the day. She manages to fight the bronchitis symptoms in front of her clients for the past three days. Antibiotics, cough medicine, the dreaded inhaler and the whole nine yards.
Let's not get into the slimey details of the fever, clammy, stuffiness, nose blowing snot dripping on the one kleenex tissue she had in her purse; with body aching, dizziness, lungs gasping for air and lifeless body limp with no energy that … (90 comments)

blogging safely: Half A Million ActiveRain Points- And...the 'POINT' of It All - 05/27/09 01:19 PM

POINTS??   500,000 of them! Half a million of them!
I've been kind of busy so didn't have much time to do a whole how I got to this 'point'. The 'point’ ' I really need to stress about 'points' on ActiveRain is that writing as if the reader is walking alongside of me is a valid ‘point’ for blogging and receiving ‘points’ .
‘Points’ are rewarding and ‘points’ can also show one their progression on ActiveRain. ‘Points’ can also create havoc in ones that just want to game the ‘point’ system is a ‘point’ I don’t look … (40 comments)

blogging safely: Stepping Over the Line of Integrity - "Can't Touch This" - 03/04/09 02:40 AM

Everything about the Lionfish says, "Don't Touch" and "Can't Touch This"! The poisonous venom is delivered from the spiky dorsal fins and can be extremely painful to humans along with symptoms of nausea and breathing difficulties; though rarely fatal.
Life throws curve balls and it seems at more times than others. Sometimes life dumps a whole was of them right in our laps. We go through life with ups and downs and all arounds.  The trick is to take each one as a learning lesson.  Regardless if it's negative or positive...there IS a learning lesson.
In our Real Estate Industry we follow our … (16 comments)

blogging safely: Are Those Pictures in Your Blog...YOURS?????? - 02/28/09 09:35 AM
About a year and a half ago I went back through my old posts to make sure I didn't have any pictures inserted in them ....that WERE NOT mine. I had a few. I deleted them quickly as I was learning about NOT using animations, pictures, cartoons that were not mine. Obviously, it's stealing and I did not get permission to use them.
Just as I do in my Real Estate business, I do everything by the book and advertising (blogging) also has to be within our state laws for the Real Estate Industry as well. Blogging is fun and can … (51 comments)

blogging safely: There's a Diplomatic (Nicer) Way to Say IT! - 02/27/09 04:51 AM
We ALL feel the need to express opinions on many subjects. It's human nature.....we all think differently and have different opinions. Regardless if it's political, about something going on around ActiveRain or Localism or just plain views on religion or abortion, the way you are presenting it can make all the difference in the world.
In other words, I can be assertive to express my opinion. Be mean, nasty, blunt and one sided and no one would want to listen to me. At least I know I wouldn't if I talked me to that way.
I don't Nobody deserves the disrespect from 'loud mouthed'  (bolded exclamation … (34 comments)

blogging safely: Marketing Ourselves at What Cost ....PART II (VIDEO) - 02/20/09 04:28 AM
We put ourselves OUT there on the internet to market ourselves, our properties, our services, our techniques and more. In Part I of Marketing Ourselves At What Cost? the discussion kept going in agreement with how we portray ourselves online as well as the Psychology of Cyberspace and how some puff themselves up all over the internet only to find out they aren't as real as we 'thought'. (that's what we get for thinking LOL)
In my own mind's eye I perceive what I read differently than the next person. (For obvious reasons of being human and accepting that we all think differently)   … (19 comments)

blogging safely: Marketing Ourselves At What Cost? - 02/17/09 03:05 PM
After reading Facebook: Why doesn't it feel good to be right? it got me to thinking about how we market ourselves GALORE all over the internet. I am restructuring my marketing and asking myself the one big question: AT WHAT COST? No, not money. It's how I present myself to the public.
Facebook may be another marketing tool but I fail to see the whole marketing thing when there is stuff like this Article about a teen that posed as a Woman and a Sex Scandal occurred.....Yeah, yeah, we put ourselves out there. But at this cost?
Do I want to … (44 comments)

blogging safely: Blogging Safely, Professionally & Respectfully ONLINE - 12/06/08 11:21 AM
Writing respectfully and professional online is always in the back of my mind.  I have always believed that ActiveRain is a place to write about ourselves, our experiences and our businesses with the intention of showing a bit of transparency so our peers and the consumer will be walking along side with us through our journey in blogging.
Picking a few of the posts I'd written on these topics, I took an exerpt from each to share with you all. If you have a certain post you've written about on this same subject put a link in the comment section for others to read as … (42 comments)

blogging safely: Who Am I? - 12/05/08 02:46 AM
Our own Rich Jacobson (ActiveRain Community Builder) wrote Establishing an Internet Presence: "Are You Creating a 'False Front?" and it got me thinking about the profile pictures and the internet presence we create online.

There are professionals online that use signs, smiley faces, a picture of their dog or whatever for their profile pictures.
To each his own.
I have always believed that I should have some transparency as to who I am through my writing. I write as if the reader is walking along side of me and give information the same way.
So I thought you folks may gain … (65 comments)

blogging safely: The Confession of a Blogger in Recovery - 11/11/08 11:45 AM
My life was consumed by blogging on ActiveRain. Though I tried to keep balance in my life I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the comments and the next post I was going to write. I couldn't stop thinking about my positive group and contests to run. It was a never ending addiction during slow times, busy times and any old time.
From March of 2007 .......
I blogged from the time I got up in the morning (okay, I managed to take a shower and get ready for the day first) I pretended to be checking my email for important ...work related mail...when … (64 comments)

blogging safely: What a Week! - 10/26/08 06:26 AM
No matter what the situation or circumstance I have to be prepared to handle it. Life ALWAYS has curve balls thrown at us to test us and to give us grand learning lessons in this big game of games.....called LIFE.
We can either let it suck the energy out of us or deal with it. Always keep in mind that there IS something to be learned.
Needless to say, this has been one big week for me with many learning lessons.
Signing was tentatively set for Thursday morning but loan docs were not drawn yet. Escrow from the closing the week … (47 comments)

blogging safely: You ARE an ActiveRain WINNER! - 09/21/08 05:50 AM
We all have an ONLINE presence when we write the written word here or anywhere else ONLINE. We approach each other by keyboard strokes and respond to comments in a professional and humane manner in hopes we are giving back to this community with a Positive Attitude.
Our behavior ONLINE shows our readers WHO we are. Whether it be positive or negative feedback we are SHOWING all readers the kind of professional we are (or not). With those words showing up in cyberspace now and in the future we are surely portraying a professional (or not) in this Real Estate Industry. Those words will continue on … (52 comments)

blogging safely: Hang Around the Barber Shop Long Enough....and You'll Get a Haircut - 09/18/08 09:18 AM
Hanging around negativity long enough and it surely rubs off on you. After writing Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online and receiving many opinions and feedback I want to acknowledge a couple of other topics that relate to blogging online.
No matter what the topic or situation it surely is not a reason to call other people out ONLINE, point direction to their posts or downright bash them. What kinds of people are these? I am human like the next person and though I have my own opinions and judgements too it is NOT professional (or humane) behavior to call attention to someone while … (74 comments)
