floyd wickman: Want to Become a Real Estate Agent? What do I need to know? - 01/11/18 11:08 AM
I started in real estate in 1991 when I found myself a single mom. I hadn’t worked in years and knew I needed to make a living and I didn’t want to go back to teaching or retail management.
What do I wish I had known the very first year in business that cost me lost business and income?
Years of volunteering at the kid’s schools and local charities gave me an instant audience to tap but I was embarrassed my husband left and I had to move to a rental. In my first few years in the business I should have swallowed … (23 comments)

floyd wickman: My business is like a Timex...it takes a licking but keeps on ticking! - 08/14/17 08:43 AM
Wow... Anna Banana’s  challenge this month “ActiveRain August Challenge – Best – Business Practices,” really made me pause and go back to my early experiences as a Realtor®. It’s been an opportunity to revisit my business starting from the beginning.
In 1990 I found myself a single mom and needed to find an occupation and quickly! I knew I was not going to go back to teaching or retail.  Armed with a college degree I found I didn’t need many credits to obtain a real estate license so signed up for classes and took my real estate exam as soon as … (41 comments)

floyd wickman: Is it still true you have to "List to Last"? - 10/12/15 02:31 AM
Is it still true you have to “List to Last”?
In 1991 I found myself in the position of a single mom with a son in middle school and needed to make a living. I hadn’t taught school in years and I needed to put my big girl panties on and get a job! I started selling advertising for a Real Estate company and watched with interest at the agents in the office. It didn’t take long for me to realize I could be a Realtor and a good one! I took a few courses (my college credits transferred over which helped) … (67 comments)

floyd wickman: Your Clients Need To Know You Care - Before They Care What You Know - 07/30/10 12:07 AM
I was reading a great blog by Richard Wiseman on Knowing Your Competition.  It is crucial to understand what your competition is offering so you can create several higher levels of offerings that will make you stand out as a marketing guru.  Of course you need to provide a good track record to cement the ideas you implement.Just this morning we emailed 3 of our sellers to let them know their homes were showcased in a local paper.  Since we list many homes in the community our homes are often selected.  We just came to terms on one of the homes … (68 comments)

floyd wickman: Is Your Mission Statement A Reflection Of You? - 07/28/10 11:42 PM
Do you have a Mission Statement?  Not your company's Mission Statement; your very own that you use to convey who you are and how you view your role in conducting business.
Years ago in a Floyd Wickman's course he extolled the virtues of creating your own Mission Statement that would reflect your core values.  We immediately created ours and still use it today in our marketing materials, comparable market analysis and other reports.  Do you have a Mission Statement that reflects who you are?
Here is ours:

floyd wickman: Dealing With Sellers In The Luxury Market - 01/25/10 05:29 AM

Patty McCarthy spoke on the Luxury Real Estate Panel at the recent Quantum Digital Summit in Austin January 19 and 20, 2010.  She is Vice President/Realtor at William Raveis Real Estate in Connectut for the past 20 years.  I can certainly see why she is an acknowledged leader on the cutting edge of real estate.
She has warmth, a sense of humor, style and also is a graduate of the Floyd Wickman Training Course (she claims she went through it twice and I believe her).  Her presentation was humorous but contained very relevant content.  She discussed the elite … (12 comments)

floyd wickman: You Get What You Give - 12/31/09 05:43 AM

Many years ago in our Floyd Wickman "Sweat Hogs" training class we all got pins that said "You Get What You Give."  The main premise taught was to get out there and make a difference in your community or sphere of influence.  It was not about being seen but to get involved in activities that meant something to you so you could discover the feeling of satisfaction in making a difference.  Many in our NW Coldwell Banker United office took this course so we as a company found with the diverse group of agents we could encompass a variety of … (13 comments)
