paradise4gringos: Día De La Candelaria - 02/03/16 08:27 AM
Día De La Candelaria
Yesterday was a holiday here in Mexico called Día de la Candelaria.  It basically is the same as Candlemas, which is the "Presentation of Christ in the Temple".You may be familiar with the custom of taking candles to the church to be blessed.
Día de la Candelaria is celebrated throughout Latin American countries with each country having a few unique ideas for the celebration.
Another religious celebration actually leads into this one.  In January, there is also a celebration  Día de Los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day or Epiphany), In the first celebration, traditionally the family has a cake called the … (6 comments)

paradise4gringos: Market Trend - Mexico Real Estate Is Booming - 01/31/16 03:41 PM
Market Trend -- Mexico Real Estate Is Booming

2016 Should be a great year for residential real estate in Mexico.
It will be continuing from a strong 2015 and should be even stronger. It will be a Buyers market for US Buyers because of the strong US dollar. The dollar can buy about 40% more than it could two years ago.
US Buyers have helped many areas to have a record year in 2015.  San Miguel de Allende, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Chapala and Rosarito , Cancun have seen a strong demand for both homes and condominiums.
And it is not … (3 comments)

One of the cities in Mexico that has captured the attention of many US and Canadian citizens is San Miguel de Allende. It is located in central Mexico and has a population of just over 100,000 and some estimates say that 10% of the occupants are from the US and Canada.

San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its architecture. Following World War II, many US Veterans moved to San Miguel and studied using the GI bill benefits.  The city became known for its cultural mix of artists and writers.  Today there are numerous art galleries and … (6 comments)

paradise4gringos: Best of Two Worlds -- Baja California - 01/24/16 03:56 PM
Best of Two Worlds -- Baja California

A place where homes are affordable, industry is booming, and regular US jobs are available minutes away.
It is an untapped gold mine for agents who want to send outbound referrals. from the United States

Many people automatically think of Cabo San Lucas or La Paz, when I say Baja California but those cities are actually in a different Mexican state, Baja California Sur.  The two states make up the Baja California peninsula of Mexico.

In Baja California, the two major cities are Tijuana and the capital, Mexicali and these two cities contain over 75% of the population. … (4 comments)

Most noticeable is the OMNIMAX cinema known as "La Bola" ("The Ball"). Anothe huge building is  "El Cubo" (The Cube),  And in between the two, you will find the   building housing permanent exhibition, called "Museo de las Californias",  One other feature is the  "Jardin Caracol (Snail Garden)",

paradise4gringos: I Met a Real Angel in Tijuana - 12/18/15 06:21 AM

I met an angel recently --  actually, I met lots of angels.  I was in front of the General Hospital in Tijuana.  At about noon, two vans, two pickups and several cars arrived and a group of people started unloading tables, a couple of food carts, food and drinks.  Soon they were serving tacos and punch.  A crowd quickly gathered.  We thought the tacos looked good and joined the line.  But to our surprise, the food and drinks were free.

Some of those in the line were homeless, some just passing by, others were waiting for friends or loved ones in the … (10 comments)

paradise4gringos: Do you need a stress-buster? - 11/07/15 12:27 PM
Nayarit, Mexico is beautiful and relaxing and it is a great location for a retirement or vacation home.  This post by LOTTIE KENDALL really caught my attention.  She describes a hacienda style vacation home on the beach about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta.
There are condos and single family homes available near here and in Puerto Vallarta.    I would be glad to put you in touch with one of several excellent agents who can give you all the details if you or anyone you know would like to learn more about Nayarit, Mexico.

paradise4gringos: Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) at a Mexican Public School - 11/02/15 11:57 AM
Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead)  is a holiday celebrated in Mexico.  During Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2,  family and friends remember and honor those who have died and provide help to the spirits. Symbols and altars are seen everywhere.
Some of the very interesting things are created by children in the public schools.

A calavera (skull) is one symbol of the holiday.

Skeletons of all types are seen.

Sugar or chocolate skulls may be given as gifts to both the living and the dead.

paradise4gringos: Step - by - Step ---- Communication on an International Referral - 10/19/15 02:02 PM
Referrals are an important part of any successful real estate business and require some specialized care.

Most of my referrals are from agents in the United States or Canada who have clients looking to buy or sell in another country.  At a minimum, i need to communicate with three different parties.  Other parties who may need to be kept informed might include an employer,  a spouse in a second location and/or a lender.

To keep it simple I am going to show the basic communication needed for three parties:  the referring agent (I will use the initials AR because I hope many of these … (9 comments)

paradise4gringos: Fill It Up! - WOW -- Check Out This Customer Service - 10/15/15 05:16 AM
Today I stopped for gasoline here in Mexico and received a very pleasant surprise.

There is one oil company here -- but where I am, we have two companies that market the gasoline.

One company has buildings painted pink and most of the attendants are girls. (And they often have people waiting - LOL).

Today, the attendant had a large graduated cylinder and filled it with a liter of gasoline to show me that the pump was delivering the correct amount (No Fraud Here).

Then after she pumped the gasoline there was a big surprise.

She added the liter of gasoline … (16 comments)

paradise4gringos: An American Tragedy -- They Have Not Forgotten the Country They Love - 10/01/15 04:30 AM
An American Tragedy --  They Have Not Forgotten the Country They Love.  The United States has deported many Veterans.  These brave men and women have a deep love for the country they served and when you see them staring across the border, it makes you want to cry.

When the flag is upside dow it is a sign of distress.  And what could be worse than veterans who risked their lives for the US, only to be thrown away?

paradise4gringos: Mexico City -- It is Richer Than You Think - 09/29/15 09:22 AM

Mexico City is booming.  It will probably be the 7th richest city in the world within 5 to 10 years.
This will create many opportunities for developers, investors and individual property owners in this thriving city.
Just look at a map of the Americas and you will see that Mexico City in the center is a natural hub.  It's proximity to the United States and Canada along with easy access to the emerging markets of South and Central America are one factor.  The greater metropolitan population of 21.2 million people (similar to New York City) helps fuel the economic growth.
Huge amounts of direct investment … (10 comments)

paradise4gringos: FAQs - What Do You Mean by 'Ex-Pat' Communities? - 06/08/13 01:12 AM
First I should explain the term "expatriate" which is often shortened to ex-pat or expat.
An expatriate is a person who is living somewhere that is different from the culture and/or the country of citizenship or where they were raised. Often the term is used in a professional sense for employees of companies on long term assignments in different countries.  Recent trends for many retirees and telecommuters to move to different countries has increased the usage of the word.
There are no formal requirements which determine an expatriate.  Some countries do have laws defining expatriates for tax purposes or for … (7 comments)

paradise4gringos: FAQs - Who Should Not Consider Buying in Latin America? - 06/07/13 08:20 AM
Maybe you should not be considering Latin America as a place to buy.
As much as I love Latin America, I am the first to point out that it is not the place for everyone to live or visit. Some people will be completely unhappy if they leave their old neighborhood, friends and family.
Some communities have lots of people from the US and/or Canada and these communities may be completely different from the Latin American atmosphere that you expect. Although some of these neighborhoods in Latin America may seem almost like the old neighborhood, they are still quite a distance … (6 comments)

paradise4gringos: FAQs - What About Medical Care in Latin America? - 06/07/13 12:51 AM

One of the most important concerns that I hear about living or even visiting countries is about medical care.  Everyone asks:  Can I get medical care?  How good is the medical care?  How much does it cost?
There is excellent medical care available in Latin America.  The prices are low and the care is outstanding.  In most countries, the cost of care is ⅓ to ⅕ the price that you will incur in the US.  And Cuba is even 96% cheaper than the US.

Did you know that medical care in the US is the world’s highest … (2 comments)
