technology: Are mobile web and mobile search ready for real estate? - 09/30/08 05:36 AM
As real estate professionals, nationwide, search for sales and marketing tools to better advertise their listings to consumers, talk of mobile advertising capabilities continues to rise to the top of discussion.
We've seen MLS and Associations swarming around the idea of mobile MLS search, in attempt to meet real estate consumer demands and provide easy access to listing information from mobile phones. The only question is, are we ready to start marketing campaigns via mobile web search? If you are trying to reach a large audience, wireless user reports point to "No".
In our research, we have yet to find a … (3 comments)

technology: How do you keep motivated - follow the KW way! - 07/30/08 07:43 AM
As we all know, technology continues to evolve by leaps and bounds, and the role it plays in the real estate industry is a vital one. We, Goomzee, was recently invited to attend an event that's premise was meant to motivate customers and keep their marketing minds going. As we continue to hear of the market downturn, although we may not necessarily all agree with it nor be affected by it, we need to have a way to keep motivated. How can we keep selling our properties? What tools are available and which of those will best fit my marketing portfolio?

technology: It's all about what the seller wants - or is it? It's YOUR job to EDUCATE. - 07/18/08 05:39 AM

"It's all about whatever my seller wants to hear."
Recently I've read some interesting comments in some of the blog posts about agents adopting new marketing tactics - or not adopting them for that matter.
What stands out in my mind the most is a comment that read, "It's all about whatever my seller wants to hear."  Stop there.  Isn't it also about the buyer? These comments triggered an irritation that just needed to be scratched.  So here we go.
Ultimately, yes, if you want to win listings, pleasing the seller is what needs to happen.  But as an agent, … (10 comments)

technology: Identifying your tech-savvy customer - 05/29/08 04:06 AM
Nielsen is preparing to report their Q1 2008 findings for mobile buyers.

What do these stastics mean for you, the real estate professionals, and your consumers?  As usage of text messaging increases overall, so does the increase of adoption and implementing it into other uses; product/service information and purchase decisions.  As consumers continue to see the value in receiving information via text message about products and services, it opens up another stream for real estate professionals to get information out to them.
Why do people love it? It's simple (for most), it's convenient, and it's fast.  They don't have to … (16 comments)

technology: Remember, summer means more traffic at your properties! - 05/27/08 03:48 AM
My Memorial weekend to the lake was delightful.  My mum and dad live in a very summer touristy area just about an hour and a half north of my town; and boy you could tell summer was just around the corner.  Lots of people bringing out their campers and tents for the season, green grass and LOTS of new properties listed.
The one thing those new properties were missing was information about them!  We saw three homes in just one small area alone that were new listings, but the name of the real estate company wasn't familiar.  We kept saying, remember … (3 comments)

technology: Technology is nothing to be afraid of! YOU CAN DO IT! - 05/20/08 04:03 AM
I recently read an article in Inman News: "Old tricks for new market realities" by Glenn Roberts, Jr. In a nutshell, it talked about the changes in the real estate market and how to cope with the downturn in the market, as well as the age of the agent vs. the age of the consumer the (age of the agent, still averageing roughly 50, and the age of the consumer, which continues to get younger).  It discusses that it's time for agents to get back to the basics of marketing, yet many agents don't even know what that is.
The information … (2 comments)

technology: You haven't heard of AR? How is that possible!? - 05/13/08 05:59 AM
Every day when I speak to Realtors, I am sure to tell them I'm on Active Rain.  Nine out of 10 times, they report that they have never heard of it.  WHAT?!?!  How is that possible??  They are missing out on such a great resource to share thoughts and ideas with fellow agents around the US and even beyond that!!
Of course I send them a link and only hope that they take advantage of the opportunity.
How many people do you come across that haven't heard of it?  It's mind boggling!

technology: Were you one of Verizon's 20 billion in February? - 03/31/08 03:50 AM
As popularity continues to increase, I wanted to share Verizon's press release information regarding their nearly double growth in text messages sent in just 6 months. We are beginning to see the increase of national advertisers using this marketing tactic to reach more of their customers in a more personal way, by using their cell phone; something that rarely leaves their sight.
As posted by Fierce Mobile Content 3.31.08:
Verizon Wireless announced that its subscribers sent and received close to 20 billion text messages in the month of February, just eight months after the operator's first 10 billion-message month, June 2007. … (2 comments)

technology: Mobile Phones, Mobile Advertising and Real Estate - an Overview - 03/07/08 04:26 AM
After yesterdays post of Pew Internet and American Life Project's latest mobile phone report, I decided to gather a bunch of my statistical research together as an overview....
Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!!!!!
A new research report posted by Pew Internet and American Life Project, has determined that Americans are now more dependent upon their cell phones, than they are on their landlines. Not only do they prefer their cell phone over their landline, but they also prefer it as their technology of choice, even over tv and web.
As of December 2007, 58% of those surveyed, reported they have … (12 comments)

Study: Cell Phone Now Most Vital Device As reported by:
By ANICK JESDANUN
NEW YORK (AP) — Americans have become more dependent on their cell phones than conventional phones.
For the first time, Americans say they would have more trouble giving up a cell phone than a traditional phone, the Pew Internet and American Life Project said in a report Wednesday. Less than two years earlier, respondents still considered their landlines the most crucial technology.
"The preferences have flipped," said John Horrigan, author of the new Pew report. "During that timeframe, people have gotten new devices that have more capabilities. … (26 comments)

technology: Kids these days... - 02/13/08 06:40 AM
I received this email today and thought it was a great addition to my last post: Chronicles of a Young Homebuyer
ENJOY!!!
THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what, with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning... uphill BOTH ways yada, yada, yada! And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy … (4 comments)

technology: Chronicles of a Young Homebuyer - 02/08/08 06:57 AM
Chronicles of a Young Gen Y Homebuyer
I’m 25.  I’ve never bought a house, I’m not quite ready.  But you can guarantee I’ve done my homework and I already know what agents I will work with when I am ready to buy.  I have several friends, the same age as me, who have owned 2 or more homes; and I can guarantee you they aren’t staying put for long.  They started out in a Townhouse for one, then marriage equals a garage for two, then comes baby in a baby carriage; more rooms, more space.  How would you like to be … (37 comments)

technology: Listing information - the Green way! - 08/22/07 10:46 AM
Providing flyers at listings can get costly, let alone sometimes serve as a garbage filler to those consumers who aren't actually interested in the property.  You may even be losing leads. AHH!
A great way to provide alternate access to listing information at the property is via mobile technology, and Goomzee Connect does just that!
Goomzee Connect is a 24 hour lead capture and listing information service that allows consumers easy access to property information via text message.  When in front of a property they can send a text message containing the property ID code to receive valuable information they are … (2 comments)

technology: Be careful how you word things... - 08/17/07 11:31 AM
When the Apple iPhone came out, our local paper came out with an article title "iPhone Little Too High-Tech for Montana".  That morning while at my local coffee shop on the way to work, I noticed the title on the front page in BIG BOLD LETTERS.  Working for a technology company in Montana, I coughed up my $.50 and grabbed it.  I was APPALLED.
Okay, so as I read through the article it talked about how the iPhone won't be offered in Montana becuase we don't have any Cingular stores. Now that's fair... so why didn't you say that in the first … (2 comments)

technology: Help! How do you keep up on tech trends? - 07/11/07 06:16 AM
As a real estate agent, you may understand the aches and pains of the cold calling approach.  My question to you is:  What is the best way for us to let real estate professionals know that our marketing tool is available to them?
We all know that agents lead a very busy life, and may not have the time to talk on the phone at the time we call, therefore, not giving us the chance to explain how our service can help you.
Our company recently released a new mobile marketing tool for real estate professionals; Goomzee Connect.  It provides at-the-property listing … (0 comments)

technology: Advertising your waterfront listings - what's your technique? - 07/02/07 11:00 AM
This weekend I spent my time on Northwest Montana's beautiful Flathead Lake.  As we all know, a beautiful lake with easy access means lots of visitors and lots of people who would LOVE to live on it, or rent for a weekend vacation for that matter.  Either way, a lot of traffic up and down the shorelines, often out of towners visiting the popular Montana sites.
My mum, dad and I were driving past a waterfront listing and noticed for one, that the sign was difficult to read, and two, the only information available on the house was a phone number … (2 comments)
