As fires once again rage in Sonoma County, not far north of San Francisco, a hazy sky was the view from my San Francisco condo today. Even eerier, as night has fallen there are no lights visible in Sausalito and Tiburon, two Marin County towns just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. With hot, dry, gusty winds blowing, PG&E has cut power to close to 1 million people in the state in an attempt to lessen further fire danger. While much of the country is seeing cooler temperatures after a sizzling-hot summer, here in California we're in the midst of our wild fire season. The recent heat wave in the San Francisco Bay Area has been a major concern. Not only has it made for uncomfortably hot days -- 102-degrees in San Jose yesterday, around 89-degrees in temperate San Francisco -- we are always on the alert for wildfires.
