jenny kotulak photos: Speechless Sunday - Hola Cuba - 12/12/10 04:09 PM
I love Cuba and I've visited 3 times in the past year and a half.  I just returned from Cayo Guillermo on December 4th after a wonderful week of fun in the sun with my husband, my sister and her husband.
Although I've only been home a week, the holiday already seems like a distant memory.  I thought I would share some of my memories with you as we haven't seen much sun in the past few days here.  The weather  has been dull and drizzly and while it is raining here many areas around us are getting hit with major snowstorms.
Thanks Cuba, for … (28 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Name That Photo - The Eyes Have It - 11/15/10 04:02 PM
It's time for another Name That Photo post.  Here are two pairs of eyes for you to eyeball and see if you can come up with the names of these two famous people that they belong to.
And for now that's the only clue that I will give.  "Famous people"  Well OK I will also say that I took the photos at the same time, at the same place, although one of them is a photo of a photo.
Confused?  These two do share a common bond.  Can you guess who they are?  And perhaps where I took these photos?

jenny kotulak photos: Wordless Wednesday - Well Bearly A Word - 10/27/10 05:14 PM
Last weekend I visited Parc Omega in Montebello, Quebec.  I was totally amazed by the number of different species of animals we saw as we drove through the park.  Many roamed freely, saddling up to the slow moving vehicles looking for handouts of carrots and other good eats.
Some animals were safely enclosed in fenced  areas and people were to remain in the safe confines of their vehicles.
The subject of some of my favourite photos is the big guy below.  What a story he had to tell.

Oh, here we go again.  Another carload of curiousity seekers.  Can't a guy get any rest.  … (33 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Happy Thanksgiving Canada - Autumn's Bountiful Harvest - 10/11/10 03:51 PM
As the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday weekend comes to a close, I'm sure I speak for many who enjoyed time with family and friends.  I'm sure I am not alone in having indulged in too much of everything good.
Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, turnip,  pumpkin pie and much more weighed down the table for our Thanksgiving feast.  The weather co-operated and it was a wonderful weekend to enjoy the autumn colours from our last pontoon boat ride for the season on the lake.
Everyone at the table took a turn to express what they are thankful for.  Family, friends, good health, good food … (19 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Sixteen Mile Sports Complex - Oakville Ontario - Now Open - 09/22/10 04:54 AM
I had the opportunity to attend the VIP Grand Opening Celebration of Oakville's newest sports complex this past Friday evening.  The invitation was extended to me due to my involvement on Oakville's Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
The new 4 rink arena is a stunning, state of the art facility.  I'm just sorry it wasn't built when my kids were playing hockey in their younger days.  In the older Oakville arenas the fans in the stands had to fight for the right to sit under the heaters.  Even then you weren't guaranteed that the heater would actually turn on.
If you … (8 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Speechless Sunday - Signs Of The Times - 09/05/10 07:28 AM
A great start to the new school season - As seen on local Church sign.

Which banks do you trust these days?

I've always wondered how beavers do it.  Haven't you?

Something my mother always told me.

I saw these final words of wisdom on a sign but didn't get the camera out fast enough as I drove by:
"Growing old is mandatory.  Growing up is optional."
Happy Labour Day Weekend.

jenny kotulak photos: Buying New Or Resale - Is It A Coin Toss? - 08/29/10 10:09 AM
Buying new or resale - Is it a coin toss?
Not usually.  I find today's buyers have specific needs and wants and tend to lean one way or the other.
Buyers looking at new or newer homes desire the bells and whistles that these homes provide. Hardwood and ceramic flooring, 3 or 4 bathrooms, great room with vaulted ceilings, large windows. They only have to do finishing touches such as adding fencing, landscaping, central air or maybe repainting or finishing the basement down the line.
Lot size and mature neighbourhood are not the highest priorities on their wish list. They may not have the … (8 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Police Cruiser Accident Closes Trafalgar Road For Hours - How Do You Get Where You're Going? - 07/28/10 02:45 AM
One of Oakville's main arteries was closed to traffic for hours today causing major congestion and headaches for Oakville drivers.  Trafalgar Road, a major thoroughfare for motorists travelling north and south over the Queen Elizabeth Highway was the scene of a collision between an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser and a Mercedes, just south of the QEW overpass.
The accident which occurred around 11:00 a.m. created havoc with all four lanes closed to motorists for more than 3 hours.  Both the O.P.P. officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to hospital.
When accidents happen and road closures occur confusion … (5 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Moose Monday - If Partridge's Can Have A Bus - So Can Moose - 07/26/10 05:46 AM
I am dating myself by revealing that I used to watch the Partridge Family when I was a kid.  When I saw Danny Bonaduce on the Joy Behar show last week, I realized just how "grown up" we both are now.
When I was out moose hunting the other day I spotted the moost interesting bus parked beside Mirror Interiors in Mississauga.  It brought to mind the old Partridge Family bus that the group used to travel in from gig to gig.
This moose bus is used for a different kind of gig but it certainly does stand out in a crowd.  Earlier … (21 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Moose Monday - A Fathers' Day Find - 06/21/10 06:47 AM
It's time to submit another moose photo to the Moose Monday group on Active Rain.  I don't have too many opportunities to post to this group as I don't stumble upon many moose during my day to day activities.
Yesterday was Fathers' Day and my husband and daughter and I set out for a country drive.  There was an old historic mill in Blair, Ontario that I have wanted to take photos of for a long time.  (That's a blog post for another day)
My husband was hungry and he said he knew a place in Kitchener, Ontario, not too far from … (14 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Oakville Ontario - Being Where The Action Is - 06/16/10 08:44 AM
Driving over the Rebecca Street bridge in Oakville this morning I noticed a lot of people peering down below to the harbour.  Curiousity got the best of me so I pulled over, grabbed my camera and set out to see what all the commotion was about.

The scene below was not the normal one that I usually enjoy while walking my dog and taking photos of our beautiful Oakville Harbour.

One badly burned boat, one almost completely sunken boat and two neighbouring boats damaged.  Talk on the bridge was that the fire took place about 2 a.m. this … (30 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: The Sovereign House Museum - Oakville, Ontario - 06/04/10 04:14 PM
The Sovereign House Museum is located in Oakville near the west harbour in historic Bronte Village.  The home was saved from a developer's wrecker's ball in 1988 and moved from it's original  location to Town of Oakville parkland overlooking Lake Ontario on West River Street.
The farm house was built in stages between 1825 and 1846 by Charles Sovereign.  Novelist Mazo de la Roche, famous for her Whiteoaks of Jalna sagas lived in the house for about five years, prior to her becoming famous.
Renovations on the house have given it the appearance of the style of the 1910 era.  The Bronte Historical Society. maintains the property and it opened up to the … (12 comments)

Oakville, Ontario - On The Hunt For Nature Trails
Living in Oakville, Ontario affords the opportunity to be "one with nature" within minutes.  Halton Region and neighbouring Peel Region offer plenty of parks, Conservation areas, hiking trails, ravines and forests, all of which are full of interesting types of wildlife, birds and waterfowl.
Rattray Marsh in Mississauga, Ontario, just east of Oakville provides a great boardwalk that passes by the marshy area and weaves in and out of the forest.  You also have access to Jack Darling Memorial Park where you can enjoy a picnic along the shores of Lake Ontario … (22 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: Moose Monday - Montreal Moose - 05/31/10 05:34 PM
It isn't often that I am able to post to the group Moose Monday.  We don't have moose walking up and down the streets in Oakville, Ontario like my  fellow bloggers Gerry in Red Lodge, Montana and Debra in Homer, Alaska.
I did however spend a little time on the streets of Montreal, Quebec a couple of weeks ago and I was fortunate enough to find some moose that hopefully qualifiy as fodder for the esteemed Moose Monday club.
Here is a month's worth of Moose Mondays.

jenny kotulak photos: Speechless Sunday - Windows To The Past - 05/30/10 08:58 AM
Historic homes and buildings hold many stories and secrets from the past.  It's important that we embrace history and capture it to share with  future generations.
As time marches on, and land to build on becomes scarce in many areas, it is important to preserve our community's historic sites.  A big thank you goes out to those who work on our behalf to save these buildings for all to enjoy.
Yes, we are losing many due to decay and no funds for restoration.  And yes we are losing far too many to the wrecking ball for new home development.
I find nothing … (20 comments)

jenny kotulak photos: I Went To Montreal - And All I Brought Back Was A Photo Of The Stanley Cup - 05/25/10 08:54 AM
So the Montreal Canadiens have joined the Toronto Maple Leafs on the golf course.  Of course the Leafs have had a pretty good head start so the Habs players have lots of catching up to do and the Leafs may be beating them on the greens if not on the ice.
My blogging buddy Gerry Khatchikian from Red Lodge, Montana is a huge Habs fan.  He has been keeping us posted with his recent blogs about the Habs great playoff run.
Last week I took a small trip to Quebec and visited Mont Tremblant and Montreal.  Last Tuesday I actually drove by the Bell Centre … (17 comments)
